PITTSBURGH -- Pro Bowl safety Troy Polamalu potentially could miss practice time this week after injuring his calf before the Steelers' 35-24 victory over the San Diego Chargers, but coach Mike Tomlin said Polamalu is expected to play in Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Polamalu strained his calf during pregame warm-ups and barely made it on the field in time for the opening kickoff against the Chargers. He played the entire game but finished with only three tackles.

"We're at the point in the season where it's about getting ready to play and being at the very best that you can be on game day," Tomlin said Tuesday. "If that means sacrificing a little physical preparation for him, we're willing to do that."

Polamalu is tied for second in the NFL with seven interceptions and plays a significant role in the league's top-rated defense. His 73 regular-season tackles ranked fourth on the team.

I was wondering why he didn't seem to be making as many plays as usual against the Chargers. Only 3 tackles. I hope he is good to go for the Ravens.

Yeah, I just saw this report on ESPN. I thought something might have been wrong with him, like you I was wondering why he didn't seem to be making as many plays as he usually does(hardly heard his name called at all). As Tomlin said...might have to sacrifice some preparation/practice time in order to give him time to heal.

Just heard Tomlin say(ESPN) all indications are that he WILL be able to play on Sunday.

GO STEELERS!! :tt03::tt03:

Well that explains it then... I was wondering why he wasn't a factor in the game.

Yeah I noticed that too. He just didn't appear to be playing with as much intensity as usual. I don't know...he just seemed...off his game. Actually 3 tackles for the shape he was in is still pretty good, seeing as how he probably shouldn't have been playing at all.

Go Steelers! :tt03:

Dang we need him healthy. He could be a huge factor against Flacco, wow guess I could tell he only had like 3 tackles.

I was freaking out, because I didn't hear him announced at the beginning of the game! I thought I missed it, so i was txtin' my friends watching on TV. I'm 100% sure he wasn't announced in.

good to hear he's playing, but I hope he's still able to fly around and bash people in the head and everything. We NEED him out there making big plays for us in this game!

I thought it was because I wore my FWP jersey instead of Troy. I might have to go back to #43 this week :).
