They were the St Louis Cardinals and before that they were the Chicago Cardinals. I am surprised that they did not change their name along the way.

Chicago Cardinals makes sense because the Cardinal is the state bird of IL!

Can Cardinals even survive that AZ heat? haha they definitely should have changed the name

Changing the name costs too much for new printing!

I moved to AZ from CT back in 2001, and was instantly surprised by the number of Cardinals that dwell in the Sonoran Desert...

No need for a name change at all!

Les sensible. Utah Jazz.

Utah. Jazz?

Don't the mormons ban jazz? Wasn't jazz invented by African Americans? Outside of the players on the team, are there even any African Americans in Utah?

Yeah, these "concept word" team names suck, especially when they don't fit the area. Although they were an expansion team from New Orleans, it just doesn't work at all.
I don't like "the heat" either.
Luckily, here in ABQ, we have The Isotopes baseball team. Pretty sweet to be named after a fake team on The Simpons.

The lakers were originally in Minnesota. (Land of 10,000 lakes) They just kept the name.

Right and there's a lot of cardinals in our area. :wink02:

Back when they were the St. Louis Cardinals they probably always use to have to say baseball or football.
