Thought I would share some shots from an exercise that we played in, along with four other agencies, last month (January).
This one was taken as I made a pass close to the beach.

Here we are stowing the "company car" at the end of the day. I am in the foreground at the bow of the ESV with my back toward the camera.

Here is what a view from "my office" looks like. I am taking this shot with the other ESV in the foreground while I am in echelon.

One last one; I am in my drysuit just goofing off for the camera at the end of a day's work. The water temp was 56 degrees with the air temp in the upper 30's to lower 40's during the mornings, warming to the 50's to lower 60's during the afternoon.

xfl2001fan,

Nope..........Navy Chief. We work along with the USMC quite a bit though.

What we specialize in, is to map the approaches to the beach. Essentially, we are mapping the bottom, finding obstructions, making sure assault vessels can get the Corps ashore during an assault.

Wow, E-7. That's awesome! So you've likely spent a lot of time with the Amphib fleet then.

I'm a former AK and was stationed on the USS Saipan (prior to it's decomissioning.) Did two Med Floats in 98/2000 with it. Was a great life...just not so hot for raising a family.

If I could go back, I'd likely still be in (though as an SK now, due to the merger) and would likely be looking for Amphib ships to tour with. Was a great training opportunity!!!

Most of my 22 year career has been with the Amphib Navy. Did tours on the BOXER and Belleau Wood. Shorter stints on the Germantown, Fort McHenry, Dubuque, Cleveland, and even the old, defunct San Bernardino. My last tour was instructing at NAS North Island. We did Mission Planning and I was the Amphib SME.

On a side note; My SK1 just retired this past year and he was not only a Shipmate, but one of the many that I call a close, personal friend. He always "acquired" the last minute items that we needed to accomplish a mission. What a guy!

How many of those ships have been decommed? I recognize so few of them...then again, I was an East Coast guy...and was only in for 4 years.

The SKs and the Marines loved having me around...because I knew where pretty much everything was on the ship...had contacts in nearly every shop that I could call on in a pinch...and was great at pulling off a myriad of "hookups" to ensure everybody got what they wanted (and of course...I came out ahead.)

It's good to be a Logistician!

San Bernardino was an old LST...gone. Belleau Wood was an LHA and was sunk a couple of years ago off of Hawaii as an artificial reef...gone. Cleveland and Dubuque are LPD's and will be gone soon. Ft Mc and G-Town are LSD's and are still hanging around. I did my very first tour on the Blue Ridge (LCC 19) which is an Amphib Command Ship. I also did a few years on a Mobile Team out of Naval Station Subic Bay, which is also......gone! LOL! I guess I am showing my age.
