Now its time for me to officially pimp Mike Furrey as a free agent WR pickup that may come cheap. http://www.mikefurrey.net/on_field.php

The guy has returned kickoffs and punts, but nothing spectacular. I think he might be a nice addition as Nate Washington probably leaves in free agency.

Furrey? I think all he was is a product of Martz' system :noidea:

as a returner....for vet minimum only :chuckle:

Furrey is basically Cedric Wilson. Good 3rd WR that will catch the football and provide special teams help.

With Holmes, Ward, Sweed.....I think he becomes a nice guy to have on a 3 year contract for probably $850k a year.

If Washington goes we HAVE to have a veteran reciever to compete with Sweed in camp for the 3 spot. Furrey would be a perfect fit for this role/special teams.

Pretty much any wide receiver in the league would be an OK replacement for Washington, so as long as he's not demanding a ton of money, why not.

Furrey may have better hands than Nate. Not sure. If he's cheaper he may very well be an upgrade there and he can compete with Limas. I like the idea actually. Only difference is Nate knows our offense and Ben.

I can see Furrey as a Wes Welker-Type.

At a charity event today connected with Super Bowl XLIII, Furrey said general manager Martin Mayhew called him Tuesday and gave him the news in a brief conversation.

“He just said they were calling the guys he was going to release, and I was one of them,” Furrey said. “That was it. Short. Very short.”

It is unclear what other players Mayhew called.

“No players have been officially released,” team spokesman Bill Keenist said. “There have been some discussions with players and the front office as part of the ongoing evaluation process.”

Furrey finished the season on injured reserve because of a concussion. He publicly voiced his displeasure with the Lions’ decision and with how they handled it, saying he had to find Mayhew in the cafeteria to find out he was on IR.

Asked if he thought that played a role in his release, Furrey said: “I don’t know. That’s a man to a man, you know? We were all disgruntled. We all wanted to win. We all felt it could be different. Some guys expressed change to get things on the right track because we wanted to win. It was kind of like we got pushed to the side.

Lions fans liked the guy and thought he had good hands.....he just got stuck behind Calvin Johnson and Roy Williams on the depth chart. If the price is right, he could be a fixture here for a good 4 years.

He is only 6 foot, but maybe he can grow an afro like Fletch :fro:and be that 6'5" WR Ben likes. :chuckle:

Seems like the Lions have a history of inexplicably letting go of most of the good players they ever pick up, so it's worth a shot to see if maybe he turns out to be one of them.

Nate's biggest asset ARENT his hands. His biggest asset is his speed and ability to get separation. If he could focus on developing those hands he would have Jerry Rice-like ability. Nate can and does get by his man..........often. (See Superbowl vs Dominique Rogers-Cromartie

if nate goes.. then furrey could be someone to look at to be number 3 while sweed still develops..

even tho he played for the cowboys.. i think sam hurd could be a good slot wr he is Height: 6-2 Weight: 205 .. could be a possibility

Snag Amendola (featured on "Hard Knocks") off the Eagles practice squad.

Us slow, white guys with lots of heart are underrepresented on the Steelers.

I would love to bring Furrey in. He was a mediocre PR/KR, but he's a Steelers-type role player, kind of like Sean McHugh. He's a tough possession receiver who's very intelligent--he used to be a safety and runs excellent routes. Basically, he's not a deep threat but he catches the damn ball, which Sweed sometimes struggles with.

I would see him being a ST/backup guy brought in on a small contract, but he would be another good influence on Sweed and a class act overall who would play football our way.

i think he would look good in Black & gold! Unles he asks for to much $$$! :tt03:

Sure why not that way we can have another XFL guy play for us.

What about Bucs WR Michael Clayton ? He said he wants to test the market.I dont think he is going to get that big of a deal.He is a very good blocker and 6-4 I think
