FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) -- The New York Jets released veteran linebackers David Bowens and Brad Kassell on Thursday.

Bowens, a special teams captain last season, played in 32 games with seven starts in two seasons with the Jets. A popular player in the locker room, Bowens filled in last year at inside linebacker when David Harris was injured. He had 31 tackles, four sacks, an interception and two forced fumbles.

Bowens, 31, signed as an unrestricted free agent in 2007 after seven seasons with Miami.

Kassell, 29, spent last season on injured reserve with a knee injury after two seasons as a special teams standout for New York. He played in 32 games with two starts for the Jets after signing as an unrestricted free agent in 2006 following four seasons with Tennessee.

The Jets also signed cornerbacks Tyron Brackenridge and Marquice Cole, defensive end Sean Conover, linebacker Nate Harris and defensive tackle Nate Robinson to reserve-future contracts.

These guys would look great in the Brown and Orange for the vet minimum! (Yeah, I'm tweaking your running joke and making it my own!)

I don't even know who they are. Just figured I'd post something, since I've been relatively quite these last few weeks.

Attacks against my character I can accept.

Attacks against my team, to be expected.

Attacks against my self-imposed title are something else entirely.

You, ma'am, are fired!

In this economy? I was going to have to let someone go anyways. You just made the decision a little easier. If you ask nicely, I may be able to give you a reference letter.

I see you got a copy of my reference letter. I was tempted to post it myself...but you saved me the trouble.
