Arizona and quarterback Kurt Warner have not agree to a contract extension, but the Cardinals have crossed an important barrier. Arizona is now offering more than $10 million a year to keep him, according to a source.

Warner, whose accurate arm and flair for the passing game helped carry the Cardinals to their first Super Bowl appearance, is hoping to land a contract offer that would reflect that he is a top five quarterback. Top five quarterbacks make between $14 million and $16 million a year. The Cardinals, according to a source, are believed to be offering between $10 million and $12 million a year.

Warner threw for 4,583 yards and 30 touchdowns last season, completing 401 of 598 passes (67.1 percent).

Both sides have until Thursday night to reach a deal or he will be an unrestricted free agent starting Friday.

Why? He's not a top five quarterback. He's an old guy whose numbers benefited from a pass-happy offense and the fact that one of his receivers caught fire in the playoffs. He only won 9 games and played in the NFC West. He was 3-7 against everyone else.

What does that tell you about the team's trust in Leinhart to lead them?

That the only thing they trust him to lead is a beer bong. Yup, they may have screwed up good and proper with that pick. Which, basically, I'd just have this to say to:

Warner can still play at a high level. He knows their system. He took them to a SB.

Why not?

They are around 40 mill under the cap. If they wanna spend that much on a pass happy qb that has 1 or 2 years left have at it.

Considering that KW wants $15-$16 million/year, the Cards had better pony up the dough-ray-me, or KW retires. It's that simple. Which means the 49ers take the division next year. Matt Leinart, or a prospective rookie the Cards may draft, will not lead them where Kurt did.

Ughhhhhh - my eyes!!! I've been blinded! :horror: :horror: I see HAHA in my sleep! :chuckle:

Though Kurt shushed up all of the naysayers that said he was washed up when this past season began, I sure as hell wouldn't pay that kind of cashola to a guy that maybe has 1-2 seasons left in the tank. No way, no how. If the Cards don't shore up that D, it ain't gonna matter a fiddler's fart how dynamic the Cards offense is.
