Source: 'I'd be surprised if Nate Washington leaves Detroit'; Lions also meet with lineman Dockery

Free agent receiver Nate Washington (Pittsburgh Steelers) is still meeting with the Detroit Lions and a league source said "I'd be surprised if Nate Washington leaves Detroit.''

Washington is believed to have visits scheduled with the Minnesota Vikings and St. Louis Rams and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are also interested.

Washington would fill the No. 2 receiver for the Lions, who also are visiting with free agent guard Derrick Dockery, according to Freep.com.

Dockery, who signed a seven-year, $49 million contract with the Buffalo Bills two years ago, recently was released by the team. If the Lions sign sign Dockery, it would be an indication that the Lions would not target a left tackle with the first overall pick in the draft.

If that's the case, the choice would appear to be down to Georgia quarterback Matt Stafford and Wake Forest linebacker Aaron Curry.

Profootballtalk.com reports that the Lions (and Cincinnati Bengals) are interested in signing free agent running back Derrick Ward (New York Giants).

He did very good from his time here. I will not forget that first down catch in the 2006 AFCCG. But no matter how talented he thinks he is, he's just a 3rd string WR. Good luck to him in the future!

He's supposed to be heading to Tennessee also to talk.

He'll probably make for a good fantasy WR there

having Calvin on the other side does that

other than that....well, it's the lions

NFL Network has been covering it. It's officially a done deal.

Sucks to imagine what the Pats are going to get out of this trade.

Yeah looks like a cap move more than anything else. Traded Vrabel also.

34th pick won't cost much to sign compared to the mortgage they'd need to sign a #2.

Cassel will be another Derek Anderson. Mark my words. The Patsies have a penchant for stocking draft choices. That is why they are so successful. They get rid of players that work in their system who are not actually as good as they look there. Then they get to another team and totally suck. Kind of like most of the Steeler free agents. People will find that out about Nate and McFadden when they go to a team that is not as good.

i think he would fit in nicely with Detroit. He would have a lot of success in Detroit and certainly a bigger role.
