Good for Nate. Steve Wyche on NFL.com called that a couple weeks ago as a good fit.

My guess was 4 years-$15million contract with $6mil up front. Can see if I was high or low on the WR market.

good, now he can drop balls on 3rd down for them instead of us.

He's got good hands on 1st down, not so much when it really counts.

Later Nate! Look forward to knocking your teeth down your throat when we play you next year in our Towell Revenge Game.

I liked him also but i dont see him getting better than he is now...

no more than a 2nd WR capable of a couple big plays and a couple of "how did he drop that one" plays. having said that, Sweed will have to show a lot more to even be at Nate´s level next year!

You're completely wrong on this. The 3rd receiver plays a big role in our offense and Nate did this quite well. He will be missed.

Watch the 2nd Baltimore game again where he had Ed Reed all twisted around. Watch the Dallas game again. There are plenty of examples where he stood out.

I agree. I can't fault Nate for going for the money at this point.

Let the Sweed era begin.

Perhaps this will give Limas more motivation in learning how to hang on to the ball and not to fake injuries.

no hard feelings here.. he was part of two super bowl winning teams for the steelers. any player that helped us win a super bowl is ok in my book.

i dont think we even offered him a contract, so he did what he had to do and what any of us would have done. good luck to nate.

great deal for nate and i think it will prove to be a good deal for the titans.

i still think if he went to a team with a john elway type qb and he was thrust into the #1 wr role he could turn into the next rod smith.

i bet he has 65-70 rec/ 1100-1200 yds/ 9-12 td next year.

solid investment.

Had Holmes not stepped up in the playoffs, I'd be concerned here. While I like Nate, he is unreliable to this point. he drops way to much stuff he should catch, and yet makes an occasional stellar grab.

Glad he isn't in our division. Wish him well except when we play the Tuxedos.

May God help Limas Sweed

In 2006 we lost our # 3 receiver because Washington wanted to pay Randel El as if he was a #2. Now we lose our #3 Nate, because the Titans want to pay him as a #2.
The Steelers are smart-- why pay more when all we need to buy is a #3. Thats probably all lSweed is worth anyway. If he proves to be better than a #3, so much the better.

Good Riddance Nate, Def. was a fan of him and I like him as a deep threat this season when he held onto the puck.
Good for him moving on making the money he wants, and i hope for the best.

2.Holmes
3.Sweed
4.? Draft or FA

I like Nate and wish him the best. I can't understand the hate on a guy that wants to be a starter and maybe get more money. How many of you would turn down a higher paying job? I think he probably wanted to stay with the Steelers but just like owners make decisions on what is best for the team, I think players do what they think is best for them.

nate had 3 td's this year. they all came in consecutive weeks. they all were 48+ yd bombs. he had a 4th bomb called back vs. the giants (a game where he started for santonio and shoulda had a career game).

the potential is definitely there. i hope hines takes into consideration that he was kept and nate let go when it comes time to restructure or extend the final year of his $8.75 mil. contract.

Yeah, that and....did we even make him an offer? i think it was a "why waste our breath" situation.

I wish Nate the absolute best.

Never before has a player so confounded me about the probability of him catching the ball. He would drop balls a high school starter would catch 8 out of 10 times, but then he'd catch one he had no business at all coming down with.

He caught some big ones this year, that's for sure.

LVSteelersfan

Nate's sense of worth was too much considering all of the major players on this team that we need to get signed. He was definitely expendable. I hate players who drop every third or fourth pass and that is the kind of player he was for us. Sweed will at worst be the same as Nate as reliability but hopefully better.

It's a shame to see nate go only because he CAN fill that #2 role. And has done well at times when asked to do so. Sure he got overpayed, but one injury to Ward or Holmes and we are looking at Sweed in the lineup with Dallas Baker coming off the bench (I assume anyways).

lets roll the dice and see what happens. The rooneys built this house and the house always wins. I have faith.

If there is no value at all for OT or DL ... or CB ... y not take someone like Heyward Bay or Harvin if they drop?

Do you know the kind of space that percy harvin would open up ... He automatically changes the defensive scheme because a corner has to be on the field at all times to cover him.

If the draft goes something like last year, and the steelers have no viable options that make any sense value wise. Why not take percy harvin and have a game plan for him? Or Darius heyward bay? or Hakeem Nicks ... a guy with great size and impecable character.

For some reason I just keep smelling CB or WR early this draft

tyler289

I we take Heyward-Bey I will crap myself. Seriously.

Guy is a stud, I have watched him at Maryland. He and Holmes starting in 2 years would be one of the best duos in the league.

“We were concerned about him as an opponent, and we’re glad now to have him running down the field and catching passes for us,” Fisher said.

Translation: We had to arrange our defense to account for him or he'd burn us. Glad he's on our side now.

I still am not sure he is a #1 Receiver, but I do believe he's going to find success in this league. And with more playing time, He may very well turn into something pretty good.

Playing time is something he's never going to see on the Steelers with Ward and Holms in the way.

Much like Troy was a bust after his first year, Holmes was a fumbling machine his first year, and Timmons was a bust his first year right?

Or do you expect Sweed to be able to catch like Jerry Rice his first year? Oh wait...

In 1985, breaking in as an NFL rookie, Rice admitted he was scared and dropped the ball more than usual. "I was thinking through every step of a complicated offense," he said, "instead of using natural reactions."

No, I am not saying he si the next Rice. I AM saying that MANY receivers look pretty dang bad their first year. Mainly it is because they probably relied so much on talent in college, and now they have to adjust because everyone else has the talent and speed too.

So they have to adjust the game speed, and then work on the skills to go with the talent.

It is VERY PREMATURE to call him a bust.

I wonder what kind of production they're asking of him. I don't think Washington is good enough to go up against any of the Top 15 CBs in the league for the deep ball, and he doesn't have the hands to dink and dunk. I really liked that Nate stepped up for us this year, and wish him nothing but the best (something like Nate gets 1 TD, 5 catches, 70 yards a game and the Titans lose 7-38).
