Rebuilding Rams release WR HoltComment Email Print Share By John Clayton

After they failed to gain trade value, the Rams announced Friday they have released wide receiver Torry Holt.

Holt had a $1.25 million roster bonus due March 17, and the Rams didn't plan to keep him at his $8 million salary. As they did earlier this week with left tackle Orlando Pace, the Rams parted ways with Holt.

"The Rams will forever be grateful for the way Torry Holt represented the Rams on the field and in the community," Rams owner Chip Rosenbloom said. "He is an All Pro in every sense of the word. Over the past 10 seasons, Torry has proven himself to be one of the finest wide receivers in league history. This is a difficult decision because Torry has meant so much to the organization. In my mind and for all Rams fans, Torry will always be a Ram and we wish him and his family nothing but the best as they move forward."

The releases of Holt and Pace cleared out $14 million of cap room for the Rams. Holt, a seven-time Pro Bowl selection, ranks 11th on the league's all-time reception list with 869 catches. He started 147 games in 10 seasons.

How would Holt look in the Black 'N Gold?

In 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 . . . . . :chuckle:

I'm kind of shocked at this move but understand it is for salary cap reasons. Someone will grab him up but not with that $8 mil price tag.

Actually, I already stated that I wanted him in the Black and Gold ASAP!

Unfortunately, we would never drop those bucks........but wouldn't it be cool to see him, Hines and Santonio in the "Banana Bunch" formation?

unlike galloway, holt should still have descent value.....he can probably still score 5-6 mill a year. philly maybe ? tampa ? KC?

He would be a nice adition to the Black and Gold but I think he would want more money then we are willing to give him.

i think it would be great to have a vet like Holt next to Ward with Super Bowl MVP Holmes and up and comer Sweed. i think that is a great WR crew.

I have always been a Holt fan, but like everyone else, I don't think we can afford him.

He'd have to play solely for the love of the game and to win if he came to Pittsburgh...

Sadly, those kinds of guys are few and far between...

It is a nice thought, even if it couldn't happen.

Holt always looked to me like a WR that could find the open spot when the QB is in trouble. Ben has a nak of finding the open man when he's on the run. Seems like a marriage made in heaven.

holt could go and team back up with bruce in SF

i haven't heard any rumblings yet but I'd be willing to bet he winds up in Philly or Dallas. My bet is Dallas.

Look, I like Holt alot too. But facts are, our own Nate Washington had a better season last year than Holt did. No, I'm obviously not saying Nate is as good as Holt is. Obviously alot of Holt's numbers were down due to his lackof quality teammates. But he also has come down alot in his Yds per catch the past few seasons. Philly needs a WR yes, but they have gone on record that they have zero interest in Holt. Dallas as well.

I personally think the writing is on the wall for Torry. And that writing is the Carolina Panthers.
It's close to Holt's home. They're a team that needs a good Exp vet WR to tag with Smith and Mohammad, that is if Mushin comes back. But as a steeler, no way. And even as much as I like Holt, he is NOT the steeler type of rugged, blocking down the field WR that our system requires every WR to be.

Great character guy, and for sure Hall of famer. But not on the steelers radar at all.
