About 4 weeks ago my son's hamster, Cody, had 6 babies. 2 of them survived. My son wanted me to have one of them. So yesterday we thought it was time to separate the babies from mom.

This is Spike. We think it's a male but we're not positive yet. Even if it's a female the name has stuck.

His new home sits here at my desk.

You couldn't call him SILVERBACK or JR (for Jeff Reed) or Tazmanian Devil?

You know I think I just realized why I don't have pets of my own right now - they'd all be Steelers related names.

I tried to think of a "Steelers" name for him, but nothing seemed to fit. I thought of Mean Joe, Jack, Bussy, and many others, but I could see naming a hamster for after a Steeler legend. So.... Spike it is.

This is Spike's sister, Pebbles. We think it's a girl... It's very hard to tell at this young age.

ummmm.....cute.

Ick.

:chuckle: Sorry. My son had hamsters and I was never so glad for any creatures to die as I was those things. At first I thought they were cute. Then they got loose and we ended up finding them in the middle of the night in the bathtub trying to get water. Then he wanted one of those balls for them roll around in . OK.....cool. Until I realized they peed and pooped all over themselves in it. Then you get to handle them.

Ick.

You can always wash your hands. :P I used to have a profanityfilterprofanityfilterprofanityfilterprofa nityfilteratiel. Nothing quite like being dive bombed as it flies around the room. I'll take a few little hamster beans in my hand versus a spaltter from a bird.

I used to feed things like this to my snake....I always loved feeding time. Sometimes they would just walk around dropping little turd pellets while the snake ignored it...then, finally when the snake got hungry...it would slowwwwwly uncoil and it would just stare and follow the mouse/rat. The rodent would sometimes come up and sniff the snakes head...then WHAM! Done.

Sorry, just a fun little trip down snake lane...

That doesn't bother me. A friend of mine had several snakes. We'd feed it all kinds of critters. A snakes gotta eat too.

Back in college a friend had an oscar fish. He'd dump in a bunch of feeder fish and we'd just watch the oscar go to town. He tripled in size in no time. Pretty soon he was too big for the 20 gallon tank.

lol. I like that...... "hamster beans". Almost sounds appealing. I wonder when they are going to start calling Obama's stimulus packages..."hamster beans".

CNN: "this just in, President Obama is going to roll out his new trillion dollar "hamster bean" today......... "
