View Full Version : 10 reasons why Sweed dominates in 2009

1. His size and speed creates matchup problems.

2. Santonio and Ward will still draw more attention since they are the starters. This leaves Sweed flying by the opposing defenses 3rd or 4th best db as seen in the Ravens game.

3. Less thinking and alot more playing at full speed since he's more comfortable with the offense and being groomed by Ward and Santonio.

4. Sweed learned to block like Ward. (see Ravens game)

5. He is getting a full offseason to prepare instead of doing the college workout, combine, draft, minicamp then training camp fiasco which puts extra wear and tear on rookies.

6. He has Ben as his qb (which makes a HUGE difference).

7. Ben still likes taller receivers. (Get over it Ward!)

8. I heard in China that 2009 is the Year of Sweeeeeeeed.

9. He's my boy!!!!

10. All Sweed haters.... you know what to do. :helmet:

after he makes a big play.

There is something about the name alone...Sweed! That makes you want to stand up and yell it.

So lets go people...lets get going for the SWEEEEEEEED!!!!!

He needs to go old-school Raymond Berry and catch 200 passes a day in a variety of positions for practice.

Heck, Dixon should be playing pitch and catch with him every day for practice.........and throwing him high, low, front back over both shoulders, fade stops, diving, etc.

..... would be good advice for ANY wide-receiver who isn't starting to do this, as it breeds good habits

I think he can as long as he works hard to get better at catching the ball.

I think it's a concentration issue, and that's fixable.

If not....there's always stick em lol.

because he will have jay cutler throwing to him... :scratchchin:

man, im still hoping this projection comes true:

Top wide receivers in 2008 NFL Draft:

1. Limas Sweed, Texas
Height: 6-4 Weight: 210
College stats: 124 receptions, 20 TDs
Vital numbers: 4.50 40-yard dash, 4.33 short shuttle, 37 -inch vertical

Limas stayed in college for four year and refined his route running and ability to read coverage's. There is a lot less risk with Sweed than many of the other receivers. He had 39 starts in college football as opposed to Devin Thomas with 13 college starts. As he said to me in our discussions, "I know how to get open, I can leap and the best thing I do is adjust to the ball." Sweed will not be in the dark when he lines up against NFL secondary, while some of the other candidates just might be lost. Finally, this guy has excellent character. Draft projection: Round 1.

MasterOfPuppets
03-19-2009, 07:10 PM
he definetly knows how to get open, and he isn't known for having butterfingers in college. i think it was just a matter of nerves, game speed, and being off the field for awhile ( hand surgery)....sweed is going to be an elite nfl receiver. i look for huge improvement this year.

ps....i been taking you sweed bashers names down....anything you say, can ,and will be used against you...:wtf:

I agree Sweed is set for a hugh season. Those drops last season are going to serve as a learning tool, he will have had a lot of time to think about it and no way it happens next year. He ran his routes just needs to get rid of rookie nerves.

Because our OL is going to turn it around this season, pass block like pros and give Ben time to get the ball downfield to SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED. Rumor also has it that Sweed has recently been seen quite often in the company of Fred Biletnikoff. :chuckle:

I have a Sweed McFarlane complete except the head. I was going to complete it until he got the drops in the playoffs. It will remain headless until he starts to show up.

And I agree that he will become a stud. He has all the tools.

I think Sweed will become a major part of the offense in by 2010 and probably in 2009. He has all the tools and showed he is gritty with that big time block.

His drop was one of those things, my guess is that will not be a problem in the future

Because I will personally walk out onto the field, pick the ball up off the ground, put it in his hands, and shit kick him the the groin for every ball he drops...

He needs a feel for the game & to not be so concerned about a DB hiiting him. I think that's the problem. If one was to look closely at his drop from the AFC championship game you will see his eyes were looking towards a defender and not the ball

I think you hit on the right word. Jitters. He was wide open time and time again, I think he lost his concentration. At the last I think all the dropped ball was playing on his mind and that just compounded the situation. I really think he will be just fine next season.

I think he put to much presser on himself 2008. Mr. Sweeeeed just relax a little and let the game come to you. We all in Steelers Nation know you should have been a first round pick. So stop trying to show everyone up and get to bidness have some fun and play Steelers ball.

Remember Jerry Rice had a ugly rookie year with a lot of drop balls.

We are obviously built for GREAT THINGS, but that's what the Steelers has always been.. GREAT. The 7 highlighted names (to go along with that SCARY ASS group of warriors) will be the key components to propelling the Steelers in something noone has mentioned yet, and that is..
