The Steelers worked late into last night trying to sign Plaxico Burress' replacement after signing kicker Jeff Reed and cornerback Willie Williams earlier in the day.

Receiver Cedrick Wilson, who had his breakout season in San Francisco last year when he caught 47 passes for 641 yards, spent the entire day and much of the evening with the Steelers as they negotiated a contract with agent Tom Condon.

wilson is alot like randle el..I guess they feel Zamir Cobb can step up, and we can still make some noise WR wise in the draft if we choose.

Cobb I forgot about him, lets hope we have something there.

JerseySTEEL

well in this draft there is a big chance of picking up a big WR in draft very late.

I'd be quite surprised if we dont go WR on early day 2 atleast.. we have alot of questions marks behind El and Ward. Mays? Doering ? now wilson? Cobb? Alot of upside w/ Cobb, but he's young. Mays shows up in pre season, then drops off radar in the regular season usually.

And Doering on the roster off the roster, he back and forth so much he must not be to valuable

JerseySTEEL

i realy like mays has shown soem skill.

BlitzburghRockCity
03-08-2005, 03:46 PM
If mays could just play as well in the regular season as the pre season, he'd be a beast..he's one of those players, who can make a really tough catch, then come back and drop one right in his hands.

BlitzburghRockCity

I wonder if this signing was more for insurance or if they really think this guy can be a good 2 or 3 WR. Cuz they havent penciled Randle EL into that number 2 spot yet.

JerseySTEEL
03-08-2005, 03:56 PM
very true i guess i was a lil rushed into saying wilson will be our num 3 even.

We got stuck in that small WR corps mode for several years in the 90's...johnson, hastings, mills, blackwell, etc... Ward is the man, El is explosive..but we HAVE to find a big tall WR to stretch the field and get open in the red zone for jump balls, etc.

JerseySTEEL
03-08-2005, 04:16 PM
EL in that gainst field he could get dow the field and fast and could jump up there for the pass, but we do need a big WR for redzone.

2 million yearly is alot for a no.3 wr, I`m thinking maybe a 2

JerseySTEEL

clevestinks
03-08-2005, 06:30 PM
I don`t know that was a descent contract

JerseySTEEL
03-08-2005, 06:54 PM
well it was a pretty good deal if u ask me but not with the right guy.

BlitzburghRockCity
03-08-2005, 10:39 PM
2 million a year, prorated and stretched out isnt too bad of a deal..and yeah, they can always restructure it if need be.

JerseySTEEL
03-08-2005, 10:48 PM
ya iam hereing wilson might just do kR and PR dutys and back up 3WR.

You noticing that in the offseason when we had a few home playoff games that we like to do some nice signing bonuses? Makes you wonder if that parking fee goes to the authority on the north shore? Anyway...Wilson is a good fit. Take a borderline producer with a big salary and replace with a potential bargain if he produces even 80% of the guy he's replacing. Takes the heat off those other contract redos.

read this on post gazette:

ASSETS: Very quick and elusive. Fearless over the middle. A great practice player.
FLAWS: Undersized. Doesn't have deep speed. An August All Star who can be shut down by quality defenders.
CAREER POTENTIAL: Adequate role player.

If a guy runs a high 4.3 or low 4.4 40 time, I'll take that in a heartbeat. Being undersized though, I can see where he might get shut down by a decent corner. good thing is, being the #2 or 3 WR, he wont get the other teams best DB's on him, so that will help too.

Its definitley a benefit to have 6'5" wr. Lob to the corner of the endzone
