I'm sick of seeing his sorry kickoffs landing on the 10+ plus yard line helping the suspect kickoff coverage get gashed for a good returns.

I`ve been saying that I think he is being told to kickoff short, so that we can get to the returner sooner, because we suck at covering KO

it just scares me everytime he kicks off and they catch it at the 10 yd line and they're at the 20 before u know it.

I'm sick of seeing his sorry kickoffs landing on the 10+ plus yard line helping the suspect kickoff coverage get gashed for a good returns. you wouldnt rather see a steelers kick returned to the steelers 4 yd line would you. cowher said he was gonna use this strategy last week. reed is the man. (our kick off coverage hasnt been "suspect" since the last bengals game. good coaching by cowher, good execution by reed.

Well, what I'd really like, is to be able to kick it high and deep, and make the tackle consistently somewhere around the 20-25 yard line.

IMHO, this is one of the most glaring weak points of our game. We routinely give the opposition the ball past the 35-40 yard line. It isn't as bad as it was, but still makes things tough.

Here we go.

I guess none of you ever heard of wind? Did you notice in the fourth quarter how is kickoff after his FG went into the endzone.

For Christ's sake there were 20+ MPH wind gusts in Cincy today! Anyone kicking to the right was kicking into that wind. The Steelers scored 2 TD's going that way, and Ben's throw to a wide open Wilson got caught in that wind.

People, just think before you *****.

Reed has been making short kickoffs all year.. dome, wind, etc. He has the leg for FG's but just doesnt seem to have it for kickoffs. Im not knocking him, I dont want any other FG kicker but Jeff, period.

but it wouldnt hurt to bring in a guy and pay him league minimum to just kick off .. or atleast consider it.

Yeah, I can remember a couple games where short kicks hurt us late in the game. Still like the guy though...

Apparently, they game planned against Minnesota to attempt some short, high kickoffs to get the coverage around the ball quicker...I don't think that was the case yesterday though...

if he has the leg to kick it out of the back of the endzone everytime and have them start at the 20 instead of giving them the chance to run the ball back, why not do that?

Kickers are not football players!

from the post gazette:

Among the keys to yesterday's playoff victory was improvement by the Steelers' special teams in restricting the Bengals' starting field position much better than they did in a 38-31 loss Dec. 4 at Heinz Field.

In that game, the Bengals' average starting field position was their 43. Yesterday the average was their 27. Tab Perry, who returned a kick to the Steelers' 3 on Dec. 4 to set up the difference-making score, didn't have a return longer than 32 yards yesterday.

That's what I'd like to see too.
