Interesting...keep in mind-the Democratic Party back then wasn't like what it is now. They were actually pretty conservative then.

Are you sure? I thought the "switch" didn't happen until after the Civil Rights movement?

If memory serves, I believe they were able to pass the Civil Rights bill with alot of Republican help(it was the Southern Democrats like Gore's father that almost shot it down). Even LBJ thanked Republicans.

I would think the Democratic Party started getting liberal when Roe v Wade, gun control, and other socially liberal issues started coming into play.

Heck-even liberalism has, to some extent, hijacked the GOP(i.e. their chair, Michael Steele, is socially liberally, as is the NYC mayor and the CA governor).
