"It was an extraordinary day -- the kids were just excited to see a professional football player, and the fact that he came from Franklin School made it that much more exciting," said principal Corey Lowery. "He spoke to the kids about being in their shoes. He was positive, and expressed that the children can reach their goals if they're really willing to work hard. He also talked about some of his trials, and how he overcame them."

"It was very inspirational (for the children) -- he really gave hope to a lot of students," Lowery added.

Stapleton's visit was arranged by the school's physical education teacher, Lynn Vollmuth, who had the football star in her gym class years ago.

Lowery noted that Vollmuth, and his other teachers, were also moved by Stapleton's visit.

"He touched a lot of teachers as well, who had a hand in developing (Stapleton) into the young man he is today. We're very proud of all his accomplishments," Lowery said. "It's not just making it into the NFL -- he's so articulate, and caring."

"He didn't have to come here today, but he did, and stayed as long as we needed him to," he added. "That's what truly touches everyone, that giving spirit."
