Mike Thomas is visiting the team today according to PG.

Looks like a WR / KR prospect at perhaps 4th round

Here's his profile from WalterFootball:

Mike Thomas, Arizona
Height: 5-8. Weight: 195.
Projected 40 Time: 4.45.
Combine 40 Time: 4.40.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Vertical: 40.5. Broad: 10-6.
Projected Round (2009): 4-5.
1/4/09: Mike Thomas had 75 receptions, 834 yards and four touchdowns as a senior. More importantly for his stock, he had two punt returns for scores.

10/19/08: After a solid start, Mike Thomas' production has dropped in Pac-10 play.

5/22/08: If it weren't for Mike Thomas' height... Thomas, a kick returner with a solid 40, caught 83 passes for 1,038 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2007. His 5-9 frame hurts his draft stock.

Draft prospect visits Steelers
Tuesday, March 31, 2009
By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Mike Thomas, a 5-foot-8 1/2 wide receiver from University of Arizona, became the first college prospect from outside the area to visit the Steelers today.

Thomas earned all-Pac 10 honors last season as a receiver and punt returner. He set the conference record with 259 career receptions and was timed at 4.30 in the 40-yard sprint at the NFL combine in Indianapolis.

The Steelers, who lost No. 3 receiver Nate Washington in free agency, would like to draft a receiver with good speed who also could return punts and/or kickoffs for them.

Thomas is the first of 30 prospects the Steelers are permitted to entertain at their facility before the draft.

I believe I'm already on record as really liking this guy as a future Steeler.

If we had the opportunity, I'd pick him.

Some other WR's I would consider in the mid/late rounds are Austin Colle, Jarret Dillard, Mohamed Massaquoi and possibly Deon Butler.

I've really liked Thomas since the first I heard of him. If we took him even as high as the third I would be happy. Good kid, solid player. If he was taller his value would be ridiculously higher but height is overrated. I think Thomas will be a steal wherever he is taken.

Isn't Steve Smith 5'9"?

KR is good. WR competition is good. We have an extra 5th round pick. Why not?

It would be nice if he turned out like Steve Smith.

It would be nice if he turned out like Steve Smith.

Minus the temper flares.

Well, he doesn't need to be Steve Smith II to be valuable...I was just pointing out that dudes like Smith and Sproles can ball even though they are just little fella's...

Agreed that the size isn't going to keep him from contributing. He's quite stout so should be a good blocker, good runner for reverses etc. Could be a wes welker sort of guy.

The speed is good too. A lot of tone's big catches, he's 5 yards behnd the defender and he's catching the ball off of his hip.
