Don't know why I was thinking about this, but I remember seeing on TV a few years ago a piece on Gary Anderson. It almost brought me to tears. He was talking about how his wife left him and how he takes his kids to school now and I don't believe the ex-wife doesn't want any part of Gary anymore. He had tears in his eyes in describing the situation. Anyone remember this? - or know of the latest on Gary? What a nice, classy and consummate professional this man was as a Steeler. It's funny, I remember him saying that Art Rooney told him when he first arrived as a Steeler to marry a good Pittsburgh girl.

I loved Gary Anderson!!! I hated when we let him go and feared that we'd never have a better surer foot than he's. It was tough living through guys like Kris Brown.........then Jeff Reed came along and I couldn't believe we had found another.

I never heard anything about his divorce though. He was always a class guy! I never held any ill will towards him after he left us. Most times its 'business', not 'personal' anyway.

I take it Gary didn't marry a Pittsburgh girl then?

I, too, was a huge Gawwwwwwwwwwy fan. Met him several times at autograph sessions around the Burgh and he was always so soft-spoken but truly a gentleman. Not a drop of arrogance in that man's body.

Haven't heard anything on a divorce or much of anything else on his personal life, but I dug this up from Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Anderson

Anderson re-retired at the end of the 2004 season and currently resides in Canmore, Alberta, Canada. He operates a fly fishing charter business called Perfect Season, as well as coaching teenage soccer. At the time of his retirement, Anderson was the last active player in the NFL to have played under former Steelers head coach Chuck Noll.

Didn't know he was even married. Chuck used to refer to him as, "La Machine ".
He did set a standard in kicking,if not in marriage.

He was the best of only 4 African-American placekickers to ever play in the NFL. He's an inspiration to millions.

I know I know ... his home town in Africa. That's why the "Afican-American" label is so misleading!

He's more African-American than 99+% of the league.

Actually ... Gary's an "African-Canadian" :wink02:

HomtownGal, I found this site: http://garyandersonperfectseason.com/index.html

It still talks about his wife in the presence tense. Things that make you go "hmmm"
