those 4:15 games grew on me... i'm going to miss them. those of us who live in Cleveland will have to be going to the sports bars a lot more next season if we want to watch the Steelers. it seems like every other week we have overlapping games on the same exact network at the same time. at least it will bear me the misery of having to watch the Browns nearly every week.

tony hipchest

MNF will always be MNF to me. i dont care which night draws better ratings or has a fluffier pre-game show.

anyways i about freaked when the espn show showed the steelers at denver on monday night and then playing the bungles 3 days later on thurs.

needles to say they screwed up and i finally switched to NFLN (who wanted to talk about the patriots before the sb champs).

Barring major injury issues I can foresee 11-14 wins from this schedule. The key to that is how the first 2 games go but the middle of the schedule will produce many wins regardless.

And I would love for a flex game vs Baltimore and make it 4:15....just to make them whine, again.

That's exactly what I'm worried about  :flap:

I have a feeling this time around we won't have to overcome the same obstacles that we were faced with in that game. Namely, a HC who has already mentally checked out and a franchise QB who was a little less than 5 months removed from a life-threatening accident, 2 months removed from an emergency appendectomy and one week removed from a concussion and had no business playing in the game to begin with. I think the way Tomlin handled our final game of this past season against the Browns should show what kind of approach he will take - this team won't be taking a season-long vacation like it did in '06.

my other gripe is that goodell looked at tomlins 4:15 record before last season and flooded the steelers with those games.

now that tomlin absolutely owns them, goodell looks at it and gives them just 1.

i still cant figure out why goodell hates dan rooney. maybe it has something to do with roger being a prick. :noidea:

Yea when I first looked at the schedule I thought it was a joke, coming off a super bowl win and getting what could be our easy schedule in years is nice and true just because a team did bad last year doesn't mean they will this year but the scary thing is we are even better then we were last year as long as everyone stays healthy.

I'm talking about scheduling preference. SNF gets the prime picks like MNF used to. MNF now gets far fewer marquis matchups. (Despite ESPN paying almost double what NBC did).

ESPN's contract was for an extra season longer than the other networks. Also, SNF has at least the hope of picking up casual or non sport's fans, while it would seem less likely that those type of viewers would happen upon shows on a cable network specifically geared towards sports.

As for the schedule itself, I love the by week. That second Raven's game could be moved to 4:15 or 8:20 depending on whether FOX or CBS has the afternoon game of the week that week, and if they would dare have two SNF games between the Steelers and Ravens. Otherwise it wll have to stay at 1:00.

ESPN pays $1.1 billion per year for MNF. NBC pays $600 million a year for SNF and they not only get preferential scheduling, they get put in the rotation for the Super Bowl.

My thoughts....

No MNF at home as many of you have discussed is an absolute crime. I would be curious to see the last time a defending champ didn't have a home Monday Nighter.

Looking forward to the Steelers coming to The Mitten. My wife scored me tix to BR's very first time in a Steeler uni for the pre-season opener there and I look forward to going back to 'Heinz Field West.' :tt02:

I worried about these "let-downs" happening much more under Cowher than Tomlin. In my opinion, Tomlin seems to have this team much more focused week to week than Bill did.
The ease of this schedule to last years' is unmistakable, but certainly not a cake walk, the Steelers will be facing everyones' best week in and week out...but we're fortunately used to that.

either way, i'm not a big fan of Monday Night OR Thrusday Night games. i think if they bump up to 17 or 18 games for the season EVERY night will be football night and they will do without bye weeks. football will be like baseball...every damn day! haha!

Well to be fair, 4 15s are reserved more towards west coast teams, and two were not playing last years schedule. Giants, cowboys, Ravens, eagles, Colts, Chargers and Pats doesnt even compare to this years schedule for ratings attraction, but I think some of these might get moved to the 4 15 spot. Im going to have a problem since I get the giants and the Jets most of the time since I live in Jersey so Idk what to do since I dont have Directv anymore.

Don't forget that during the flex weeks (Week 11-17), no games are scheduled at 4 pm that aren't MTN and PST time zone teams. (exceptions for NYJ/NYG conflicts)

They plan on other games being bumped to 4, but they just don't pre-schedule them. They wait until the call has to be made before specifying which games will start at 4.

All this crying about the Steelers not having enough primetime games ... who cares? The Cowboys and their fans "need" to be seen on primetime because their only identity as an organization is this silly notion tht they are America's Team. Their entire identity as an organization is based on what they think they can make outsiders think of them.

The Steelers' identity has been the same for 40 years. Pittsburgh, the Rooney's and no nonsence hard nosed football is what we are. The Steelers don't need fans from other teams and the national media to forge their identity. They already know what it is..

Eight home games and eight away games. Sounds good to me.

Living in Las Vegas, the 4:15 games were nice last year. We had so many nationally televised games last year that I only went to the Steelers bar about 5 or 6 times all year. (a compromise with my wife that I watch all nationally televised games at home) The 1:00 games will almost definitely have me getting up early on Sundays and going to JC Whooloughan's, the Steelers bar, most weeks. That is fine with me. Black n Tans and Steelers football at the same time. Can't beat that even if it is 10:00 in the morning in Las Vegas.

......and the resurrection of the "bench Willie" posse.

Not to mention the idiot Redskins fan that will probably return to wonder aloud weekly how Tomlin and company can continue to "jeopardize" our chances at winning another SB by continuing to start Willie when MeMo is so much better.

MeMo is a 3rd down back and he knows it. This is a contributing reason why he looked so good and fresh until he became the primary RB while Willie was hurt. But I guess he missed that covert information.

I think the fact that he had MeMo on his FF team had something to do with it too. :chuckle:

actually two byes in week 8 aswell as 5 :chuckle:

I really think the Lions will be very much improved in the '09, and it wouldnt suprise me at all to see the Lions win 5 games in this upcoming season. So, dont count any team as a loss in my mind / opinion.. I also like the bye week this season instead of it being in week 4 like it seems like it has been since the season they started having the bye weeks..:tt03:
