Almost out of necessity.

The clock has just about run out on that defense.

It was time to just cut the fat and reload.

Whatever the Golden Franchise does is all good. :coffee:

lol, yeah Goodell's going to make a rule where 1 Pats Defensive player can always stand in the opposing teams huddle before the snap

Pats sure do know how to draft.

Seems they put in a lot of "local" scouting. They must have enough film on all the out-of-towners. :wink02:

We DO have a couple guys available to us in the second...

Crushzilla
04-25-2009, 08:23 PM
Is Jarron Gilbert still an option?

I hope he is.

The Woodley pick made the Timmons pick better.

The Gilbert pick would make the Hood pick even better. We wouldn't have to worry much about DL. Just swing through and take care of the need in one swoop.

The Steelers have been money in the 2nd round lately.

Woodley and Sweed were both steals in the 2nd. McFadden was also, apparently, a nice pick.

somehow the pats will end up with boldin, edwards, and peppers..and 3 2nd rd picks for next year

Well, they've gotta be given some edge on the competition since they're not allowed to cheat so egregiously any more.

Offensive line and defensive line are both needs.

At least we have youngsters that MIGHT pan out on the offensive line.

While I love them, the guys on the defensive line are just going to get older.

we got 2 5ths and 2 7ths. they are so late in the round, they might as well be looked at as 6ths and 8ths.

we may trade our 7th to move up about 5-7 spots in the 6th. otherwise we have no firepower.

Max Unger will be a Steeler and fight for the starting Center position. He plays guard and center which is probably why he isn't a better center.

Give him two years at just being a center and he will be very good.

Thankfully somebody else picked Max Unger.!!! He would have been the 2nd coming of Sean Mahan.

Hopefully we see Louis Vasquez, Antoine Caldwell, Phil Loadholt or Kraig Urbik before the weekend is done.

El-Gonzo Jackson
04-25-2009, 08:55 PM
Guys, I am feeling like Loadholt is gonna drop to us at #64. They would look at him as an OT, but he could always move inside to guard if needed.

The knock on him was that he may fit a zone block system and that he only had 1 outstanding season....his senior season. He has all the tools to be a good pass blocking LT, but questions if he will be a strong run blocker.

Because we already picked our future DE and now dont really need Gilbert. That being said, I would have been happy if we picked Britton in the 1st and then waited until now and picked Gilbert in the 2nd.

I hope we just traded back in hopes of getting Antoine Caldwell, Kraig Urbik, Duke Robinson or Louis Vasquez in the 3rd.

I'm not really sure what this accomplishes. We have so few holes on our roster that we should be trading up, if anything. Was Colbert unwilling to spend draft picks to move up even a few slots to grab someone like Beatty or Sean Smith (the cost likely would've been a 5th-6th rounder, or a value of almost 0 to us), or is he not high on them?

I have to believe the FO just wasn't interested in any of the OL available, because we could easily have moved up for Beatty or Loadholt (or Wood/Mack/Oher in the first round, honestly . .).

There isn't REALLY a position that we need a starter for.

The reason a lot of guys are in the 2nd and 2rd round is because they are missing something. They are not ready to step in and be starters yet.

The Steelers have such a great organization; you can take those guys and mold them to fit into what you are doing.

I know I'm spinning this, but it may work out.

I concur. great move. Now we can get perhaps WR, CB, and interior line all in the third.

I didn't really like the options left at the bottom of the second. Seemed like a CB or WR could have been had but OL and DL prospects were not so hot. I understand that Gilbert fans won't agree but I don't think we need that guy with Hood in the fold now.

he doesn't fill a pressing need. i personally don't like players who push their coaches. if the steelers pick him then i hope for the best out of him

Well, when you are the SB champion, you don't get the first choices. I still hope we can get a badass offensive line guy. Defense wins, but you can't let your QB take a beating every Sunday and not pay for it in the long run.

And, if we can't open holes for our running game, we can't control the clock like we did with the Bus on the team.

To win week in and week out, Steelers style, you have to own time of possession. THEY can't score if WE have the ball.

That's my two-cents.

I like that the Steelers have three draft picks in the third but I was a little surprised at some of the people they passed on at 64. I hope some of them fall to them. If the Steelers burn their 5th round non-comp pick, they should be able to move up 5 spots with the first two picks in the third and 7 picks with their last pick in the third....according to draft value charts. Using the 5th round pick wouldn't have allowed them to move up much in the 1st or the 2nd.
