Solid football player? Did he even play last season? Where was he? Oh, here it is, 35 grabs, 1 TD. But he did have a decent 2007.

Nice. Competition for that 3rd and 4th spot. Makes camp very interesting this year for sure.

I was just looking at the available WRs last night...and wrote down a couple that may not be bad...and McDonald was one of them...cool.

Looks like it could end up being...Holmes, Ward, Sweed, McDonald, Wallace as our WRs this year...i wouldnt have a problem with that.

Solid pickup. Throw him into the mix in TC and we've got a pretty intense battle for WR.

walk slowly away for the fantasy foot ball and take a look at him. a really solid WR who was stuck on a REALLLLYYY bad team.

Exactly...when your burried on a crappy team like that what do you expect....the year before he had 79 catches, 943 yards and six touchdowns. Still it was a crappy team in 07 but not as bad as 08...so the guy is a good 3rd-4th WR. But then again seems like no matter who they bring in and all...someone will find 1 little thing they dont like about that player and all so haha.

I like this pickup. Lelie was a waste and I am glad they didn't go after him. Hopefully the talk on him is done. McDonald is better than the Willie Reids of the world. And Dallas Baker.

I like this signing alot better then if it was Lelie.I think he's a better wr then Washington was. He's got good hands and can get YAC yards.:tt02:

shaun mcdonald will be a nice pick up. he was productive in st. louis and even in his first year with the lions. i am still pulling for sweed. i believe he has a lot more upside to him if he pans out.

McDonald will be good insurance if one of the main WRs goes down. I still think Sweed is the man who will break out this year. A lot of people are down on him, but I just have this feeling about him. But what do I know?

McDonald is 10x a better pick up than Lelie. He was a great find. Too bad Pgh seems to only pick up Det. free agents tho!

Not crazy about 5'10" wideout. We have those. Need a tall deep threat.

"McDonald could probably characterized as a poor mans' Wes Welker."

Found this quote and I thought it was very fitting. He could easily be that kind of guy so hey lets give it a go. He might just be a Wes Welker without the big price tag. I'll take it, it never hurts to have a little competition.

Any way you slice it, it's allways a good thing to have plenty of comp in TC at WR.

Sweed is 6'4". We have that covered.

BTW... Holmes is only 5'11"... and he jumped pretty well last February.

I'd rather have talent than height. Lelie is 6'3" - and you can keep him. I'd rather have McDonald.

So essentially, you're giving Limas Sweed at 6'4'', 220+ pounds the middle finger?. Im ecstatic about this pickup. I cant believe he was still out on the market. He's got great chances of being our little underrated team MVP this year like Memo. Im going to take a dump on the statistics though and say right now, that i still think Limas sweed breaks out more than him.

McDonald was money 2 years ago in Fantasy Football as a 3rd guy.

His team had to pass and he made it work, very solid WR.

BREAKING STEELER NEWS: Team signs veteran receiver McDonald

Matt Pawlikowski
Pittsburgh Sports Examiner
http://www.examiner.com/x-2703-Pittsburgh-Sports-Examiner~y2009m4d30-BREAKING-STEELER-NEWS-Team-signs-veteran-receiver-McDonald

PITTSBURGH - The Steelers had a void at the No.3 receiver slot when Nate Washington left for Tennessee via free-agency.

But they seemed confident that his replacement was already in house with Limas Sweed. But then last Sunday, during the NFL Draft, they selected Mississippi burner Mike Wallace with one of its third round picks.

After that selection, offensive coordinator Bruce Arians spoke about the No.3 slot.

"We’re looking for that guy that is going to take Nate’s (Washington) spot in the 3-wides. He‘s a very capable player for that." ."Arians said. "We’ll just throw him in the mix and the best ones will come out."

That may be neither as an NFL source has told the Examiner that the Steelers have signed veteran Shaun McDonald to its roster. AP FILE PHOTO/ SHAUN MCDONALD

McDonald (5-10, 183) was originally drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the fourth round (106th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft out of Arizona State. He has averaged 11.3 yards per catch during his six year career.

The 27 year old McDonald spent four years with the St. Louis Rams before signing a two year contract with Detroit in March of 2007. He had 79 catches, for 943 yards and six touchdowns after being reunited with former Rams coach Mike Martz in 2007.

But his numbers went down last year where in 12 games, he had 35 catches for 335 yards as Calvin Johnson emerged as an one of the NFL's elite. McDonald still finished second in the team in yardage.

The Steelers had earlier been wooing Ashley Lelie and there is still a chance he too could wind up in Steeler camp, although that now appears more unlikely.

now don't be dissing the Detroit players the ones on the roster have all been productive. Take for instance Jeff Hartings and McHugh and I think there's another one in there.

It all has to do with the color of your uniform. :wink02:
