Well, anyone actually surprised that we got rid of a linebacker?

Sorry it had to end this way for Foote, as I've always liked him and respected his play, unfortunately dems da breaks in business.

I wish him well and have little doubt that he will be sporting a new uni with an NFL very soon (probably the hapless Lions).

Farewell and good luck, Larry. Hope you had your fill of winning, because you won't be doing much of it from here on out if you wind up in the Motor City.

Goodbye Foote, even though you were a michigan man you were still one of my favorite Steelers

Bring back Kendrell Bell!!!

funny thing, that thought actually did cross my mind yesterday. dont know if there is any possiblility of this, i doubt it though.

i guess you could add him to the 'for the right price' thread i keep hearing every1 talking about

I'll personally miss Larry, he was a great contributor for a long time. Cowher had a great nack for drafting linebackers. If Kendrell Bell would have stayed healthy, he would have been our Ray Lewis.

Best of luck to Foote . . . I hope he goes and helps turn around the Lions. Lord knows their fans deserve it (this coming from the Pirates fan).

Hopefully he goes to the Lions and doesn't do something crazy like go to the Browns or Ravens.

Good luck, Foote. I've always liked U as a Steeler. Best of wishes. If your time in the Burgh is done, maybe your son will come around become a kick-ass Steeler someday.

I'm surprised arizona isn't tripping all over themselves to sign a former Steeler.

I can't say that I'm gonna miss him too much with Timmons here, but he was a very solid player for us for many years. Good luck Foote!

This guy has never not been a solid tackler for the Steel Curtain. He takes down Parker 19 out of 20 times.

He'll be signed by the end of the week. If he ends up with the Lions, I've got no problem wishing him the best of luck. Otherwise, it depends...

I dont know. Patriots Teddy Bruschi is getting old. San Diego ILB's suck. He could end up either places.

It won't take him long to land and you named two teams that could use a good linebacker like Foote.

If Larry wanted out that bad, I would have agreed to release him only after he signed something saying he wouldn't go to an AFC North team.

I liked Larry as a player and appreciate all he did, but I still think he has handled this the wrong way.

Ed Bouchette wrote a great article comparing how Foote and Parker have handled very similar situations. IMO, Parker has handled this with a lot more class than Foote has.

No big loss. I liked him but anyone who gets our 5th or 6th best LB is not going to have a game changer. The only way he succeeds on another team is if he is surrounded by 3 other phenomenal LBs and a superstar safety to cover his butt. He is not even going to be serviceable on a 4-3 defense as he is WAY TOO SLOW. The only team I would hate to see him go to is the Patsies. They might be able to extend his career. But he won't make the money he was making here on any team unless they are stupid.

foote was an average LB playing in a LB friendly scheme. insert the next LB and so on.

foote was an average LB playing in a LB friendly scheme. insert the next LB and so on.an average LB in pgh is kind of a relative term.

we have a league DMVP, DMVP runner up and a 2nd year starter who was a top leader in sacks and has the consecutive post game sack record.

average for us is above average for 31 other teams.

didnt you also think that j. porter was just an average player in a lb friendly scheme (whose time had passed him by)?

didnt you also think that j. porter was just an average player in a lb friendly scheme (whose time had passed him by)?

yep, and i still stand by it. he is poor against the run and can only do the looping attack to the QB. do it enough times and you are probably going to get 17+ sacks.

chad brown didn't do much of anything when he left, but i think he was above average in this scheme.

lloyd did nothing due to injuries.

holmes i thought did pretty well.

kirkland was done when he left. he still gave it his all, but that weight on those knees for so long was just too much. he was great in pitt.

emmons did nothing much when he left.

gildon was a flop when he left.

bell did nothing when he left.

porter while rushing the QB, for what seems to be nearly every play, accomplished 36 tackles and 11 assists. woo hoo.

foote won't do much either. he will make routine tackles and plays that any other LB could make. nothing overly bad and nothing overly good, just average play. which isn't a bad thing, but it's certainly something that can't be easily replaced in pitt.

the steelers above average LBers, regardless of the scheme, were lloyd, kirkland, harrison. IMO, one of the most underrated LBers of the cowher era was olsavsky.
