Willie is entering the last year of his deal so in 2010 his contract is up. But since 2010 is an uncapped year would'nt that make him an restricted free agent? Thus increasing our chances to re-sign him? Also if he does sign else where wont we get some sort of compensation?

If this has been discussed already please post link.

no, he is on his second contract with the Steelers, so I think the makes him unrestricted FA at the end of the year.

What he said. He'll be unrestricted.

I do think you get a compensatory draft pick even if one of your unrestricted free agents signs somewhere else. But it'll probably be a compensatory pick at the end of the fifth round or something like that.

If you ask me, just being able to run the ball up the middle again will be more than enough compensation for losing him.
