If all goes well in the next few weeks, I will be purchasing game tickets to opening day against the Titans :applaudit: I'll be taking my wife, sister, and best bud, so we're all extremely psyched.

Having said that, we are going to need local Pittburgher knowledge...bare with me.

Because we will be spending a fortune on the game tickets, we'll have to stay at a budget conscious hotel/motel. So far I've looked at two: The Days Inn New Stanton, which according to Yahoo maps is 45 minutes away from Heinz Field (which I don't mind), and the Travel Lodge in Moon Township about 25 minutes away. Are those travel times accurate?

Are either of these two in a horrible part of town where I will have to worry about getting car jacked or something? Yes, I am from LA, and have never resided in a "good" neighborhood, but these will not be familiar surroundings.

I also checked out the other thread about the top 10 locations for a fan to visit, but if you want to add more here, please go ahead.

Thanks for the help, and wish me luck so that everything turns out okay in the next few weeks so I can actually start the ticket hunting! :tt02::tt02::tt02:

Check some of the hotel booking sites for good deals in town. Im coming to Pittsburgh next month and on hotwire we booked 2 nights at the Renaissance in downtown for 89 a night.

I was going to say this as well. Any time I come to Pittsburgh, I priceline my hotels. A few years ago, I grabbed the Marriot bythe Mellon Arena for 55 bucks for a few night. You never know what hotel you will stay in, but on Priceline, you choose your area(downtown), star level(3 or better and price). I will never book a hotel through it's actual site again. Priceline is the way to go

I don't know much about how much hotels cost around here since I don't really have a need to ever get 1.

You can check out the best western in green tree which is right up the road from the west end bridge where you could easily make your way accross and you're right by the stadium. Im not sure how much they charge though.

Some places I would check out:

Mt Washington, I live up here, though its not as nice as it used to be since the back part of its geting worse each year, check out grandview avenue and you get a view of Pittsburghs skyline. You gotta go to primanti brothers, Im sure youve heard of it from us Pittsburghers, maybe not.

Theres plenty of good places to eat downtown, but if youre on Mt washington checking out the view, I would go to La Tavola (Always see steelers up here eating) or there plenty of other resaurants up on grandview ave but are more expensive.

While you're on Mt Washington theres 2 inclines you can ride, check it out.

If you're into the nightlife, check out the South Side.

I am in the same boat as klick81. My best friend and I are coming down from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This is all good advice. I can use all the help I can get as I have NEVER been to pittsburgh. I am dying to go to this opener VS the titans. We are flying in on the tuesday and thinking of staying in downtown pittsburgh not far from the staduium. We are going to see the pirates, tour heinz feild, take in the game and tour Pitt university. We are leaving saturday. Please I need as much info as we can get on sites, sounds and ESPECIALLY Tailgaiting before the game. Thanks in advance. Hey Klick81 maybe if we meet up I will buy you a beer.

My wife and I are doing our first trip to Pittsburgh to watch the Steeler/Viking game. Been a fan since 1972 and I'm as excited as a kid in a candy store. I booked our hotel thru Hotwire, scary cuz you don't know the name of the hotel until you pay. I'm happy with the results got the Renaissance for $85 a night.

Try Hotwire, as well. I landed the Omni William Penn for $65/night on New Year's Eve a few years back. If you book long enough in advance, you can get some deals.

I'd recommend avoiding New Stanton. It's pretty much a tiny little highway town in the middle of nowhere in Westmoreland County...about 45 minutes from downtown. Coming from LA, you'll probably be bored to tears and you really won't be close enough to enjoy the city.

If you're not picky about accomodations, there's a Days Inn on Banksville Rd. that's only about 10 minutes from downtown and should be fairly reasonable. Not the most aesthetically pleasing area, but totally safe.

That's easy...the Parkway West. When you leave the airport, take 60/376 East and follow the signs for downtown. You'll then merge onto 279/376 East and that'll take you directly through the Ft. Pitt Tunnels. When you come out of the tunnels, you'll see Heinz Field across the river. Keep left onto the Ft. Duquesne bridge and follow the exit to the stadium.
