with only 2 minutes to go, i feel safe enough to say we are right back where we started.

series is 0-0 in a best of 3. the 2 horrible losses in games 1 and 2 are erased, and the penguins face the redwings who have home ice.

no problem stealing one of the 2 on the road.

coulda been better but the penguins got em where they want em with the momentum to boot.

Great game tonight by the Pens. So many people stepped up today and delievered when we needed it. Malkin was a man on a mission. Crosby finally broke out today and Jordan Staal an incredible game. He has finally learned how to use that body and now he is gonna be a tough player to defend.

Over all of those, major props to Marc Andre Fleury, we needed him to be huge tonight and he delivered.

am i the only one that feels Letang has been one of our best if not the best d-man this series?

I said after game 2 that I wasn't worried about taking 4 of 5 from the Red Wings, that I was just concerned about the next 2 at home. That they needed to win both of these games to get back into the series.

Mission accomplished.

Now, it's a best of 3.

They must now find a way to get a win in Detroit, otherwise all they will have done in these last 2 games is merely hold serve. But no question, Big 'Mo is on their side going into Saturday night. Hopefully they will be able to capitalize on a Red Wings team that has to be tired from playing what will be their 6th game in the last 10 days, all at an unbelievable pace and intensity level. Lidstrom is starting to look like he's almost 40. Rafalski is looking slow. Osgood is looking human. Draper looked both old and like a guy who hadn't played in almost 3 weeks. Even Zetterberg is showing some signs of tiring a bit. Hossa had 6 shots tonight I believe, but he really hasn't done a thing so far in this series. Now I could say all this and then they come back Saturday and take it to the Pens, because obviously they are way too talented to be taken lightly. But it's pretty obvious that the fatigue is starting to set in for them.

As for the Pens...I knew as soon as Staal's shorty hit the back of the net that the Pens were going to take control of the game, and they did. 3 goals in less than 6 minutes, some solid goaltending from Fleury, and the Wings were cooked. Geno was the freaking man all night long, playing like a man possessed. And it was nice to finally see Sid score a goal, so maybe now all of the critics can shut up.

Great effort and a great come-from-behind win. But again, they have to find a way to win in Detroit, preferably on Saturday night, otherwise it all means nothing.

Wow, this team keeps coming up with ways to impress me!

Staal was amazing, I never shouted as loud as I did when he was fighting for that goal.

Geno was a machine tonight! His presence and set ups were what this team needed to take control and put the Big Wheel away in the second.

Fluery, need I say more? This is exactly the game he needed. Tons of mind boggling saves and not a single "soft" goal. I criticize him off and on, but he was on fire tonight. Two more games like this one from him and the cup comes back home where it belongs!

What a great game! That 2nd period was undeniable.

It was a solid performance by all. Malkin has been playing out of his mind and Fleury was ON tonight. Scud had that little mistake, but overall the D played very good...the PK even better. Way to go Staal. That was HUGE! A real game changer. The next 2...highlight reel type goals. Beeeaaauuutiful. :applaudit:

Not to that we needed it, but did anyone else think that breakaway by Kunitz should have been awarded a goal. I could not believe he missed the net there, until I saw the replay. Maybe he'll get that one back on Saturday.

Last night was one of the most perfect games I've seen in this series. The way they played last night impressed the heck out of me.

If there was one thing that I see they could work is the turnovers deep in their own zone. Maybe they'll perfect that for game 5!

I definitely felt that breakaway by Kunitz should most definitely been awarded a goal. But - McCreary was the ref in charge and no way was he going to give it to us. Kunitz hasn't been scoring in this series, but his play has been outstanding overall and he's been hitting every red and white body that moves out there. :applaudit: I'd love nothing more than to see him put one in the net tomorrow night. :hope:

Overall, I have nothing to complain about, and neither should anyone else. The Penguins came out like gangbangers and whipped Detroit up and down the ice. Even after falling behind 2-1, they never quit. The Second Period has to be the best gutcheck period they have ever played in these finals, if not these playoffs.

The first Malkin rush shifted the momentum, but The Staal Shorty definately has to be the backbreaker for Detroit. Osgood suddenly looks human after giving up eight goals in two games. And how about Geno? I can't say enough about the dude. He went all out to prove his critics wrong about last year. If the Pens take the cup, he's the bonafide winner of the Conn Smythe. He's showing wants this cup as bad as anyone. The Penguins have said they were confident throughout, and they have every right to be. They've shown they can hang with the big boys of the NHL. They have outplayed the champs the majority of these Finals, only this time shots and opportunities are finally going in.

A fantastic game played by the Pens. It's a brand new series headed back to Detroit. We're halfway there, folks. Let's go Pens. Believe.

Just read on NHL.com that Datsyuk is definitely expected to play tomorrow night, but it's clear from the article that he's not going to be 100% and Bitter Beer Face isn't sure how much he's even going to play. They still need him in the lineup if for no other reason than to take some of the load off Zetterberg.

Just read on NHL.com that Datsyuk is definitely expected to play tomorrow night, but it's clear from the article that he's not going to be 100% and Bitter Beer Face isn't sure how much he's even going to play. They still need him in the lineup if for no other reason than to take some of the load off Zetterberg.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=424964

WHO??? :chuckle::wink02:

I can almost guarantee Pav isn't going to be at 100% and I think the Pens are well aware of how good he is and have game-planned for his almighty presence. Wings fans seem to think a win for Detroit is a guarantee with him in the lineup.

Brooksie will have a smorgasbord of targets to smash tonight.

I expect a very good game. I think the Wings will come out hard and firing on all cylinders. This game is more of a must win for them than the Pens.

I expect the Pens to come out just a intense and play just as hard as they did the last game. The boyz know that a win here will put a tremendous amount of pressure on the Wings.

Pens win tonight, this I'm sure of.:drink:

No matter who is on the ice, you still must play the game.

This is going to be a very interesting game from both ends of the spectrum. I think both teams will be ready and now both teams are going to have to match each other or do it to a greater degree. Otherwise that leaves a HUGE amount of pressure possibly on who falls tonight.

I was afraid of this. Penguins got c*cky and coming back to bite them in the ass. Now it is the Wings who are responding. They may be old, but they are here for a reason. Wake the hell up, dudes. You won two home games. Great. But you still need to win in Detroit. Which they haven't done yet, and aren't doing now, and are not going to. Not tonight. The D was left back in Pittsburgh. And all of the sudden Osdouche looks like God again.

It's nothing they're doing, it's what WE'RE not doing. And it's playing passive, not being aggressive, and of course not playing defense.

Should Detroit hoist yet another trophy in Mellon as the Pens sit and watch, they have nobody to blame but themselves this time. THIS game is the reason why. Nice job showing up to the game Pens. What a joke and a disappointing disgrace.

Sometimes you just have to take your ass kicking and move on. Just so they don't take this damn thing home with them.

Yeah well the Pens have managed monster comebacks before. Who says they can't do it now.
i do.

it aint happenin tonight. not in this series.

the pens need to hold the redwings scoreles and hang up 3 in the third, to make this showing semi-respectable.

theyre playing for game seven and need to act like it and show some maturity and fortitude.

otherwise detroit will break their hearts (again) in game 6.

Well, here's to a much better game 6. What is wrong with these guys tonight? :noidea:

Basically, one team showed up to play, and the other didn't. Guess which one didn't?

Despite my disappointment in tonight's game, it ain't over. I fully expect them to use the next 2 days to get themselves together and win game 6 on Tuesday to force Game 7.

I'm sorry, but this is a bleeping joke. How could the team NOT be prepared for this? You knew the Wings were going to come out in front of their fans with intensity. You knew what the Wings were capable of. You were here before! Why would you lose like this?

I don't want to say series over, but this is a cluster**** disgrace. Fleury had to be pulled for God's sake.

I'll say it again, if Assoh hauls the cup with his Wing teammates in Mellon while the Penguins sit there like dumbfounded ****s once again for the second year in the row, I'll trace it back to this game. THIS game.

BINGO! :drink:

This team has battled back from adversity before and I see no reason why they won't do it again on Tuesday. After this performance tonight thus far, you can call me crazy, but I still think they are going to bring home the Cup.

It's not like we're playing the Lightning or the Islanders. We're playing the current champs and they're a damned good hockey club. Maybe an embarrassing ass-kicking will bring them back down to earth and get them back to playing Pittsburgh Penguins hockey. :drink:

Let's at least get a few goals in the 3rd and ruin Baby New Year's shutout. :hope:

know what you do for a game like this?

well i switched from beer to a margarita and will try to enjoy the final period.

this series has been a home ice series.

we take game 6 and let the chips fall where they may in detroit for 7.

its all about some respectability now.

an ass whipping and a close nail biter tuesday could do this team good.

winning 3 in a row could leave us flat and primed to choke.

im trying to fina a bright side.

the tequilla will help.

I dont think they came out flat. We might have needed awake up call to show us that this isnt in the bag yet. I do find it bs that Detroit is getting alot of favorable calls. Nonetheless Put a couple in the net and that confidence we had after Game 4 will be back.

AMEN TO THAT. :sofunny: I hate losing by butt whopings, but then again who says it's not the last loss of the series.

I know I have showed EXTREME Frustration through this game, but don't think for one moment that I have given up. This team can come back. It's a tall task, but the Pens have faced tall tasks before and have learned how to face them. I think they'll be up to it.

The only thing about this game that makes me feel easy at all, is the fact it's against a good team.

How about a goal or two to build up some swagger for Game 6.

Agreed. Just get a couple of goals as I have said, and you can easily still take some momentum from the Wings for Game 6.

they were pressing and sloppy with the puck on the PP to open the 3rd.

The thing is 2 days off might favor the old Red Wings instead of the young Pens. The Pens will have to bounce back but I think the main thing is Fleury will need to bring his A game for game 6 in da burgh

I turned the game off entirely. I just couldn't take it anymore. The more I watched, the more disappointed I got in the team's performance tonight. I just don't understand for the life of me how they couldn't have been prepared to play this game. It's Game 5 of the Stanley Cup frigging Final for crying out loud. There's no excuse laying an egg like this!

I'd like to share your optimism this time, HTG. But I don't think the boys are going to recover from this. I can't even gauge my disappointment right now. Simply because they knew this was coming, and still played like trash. Saying they were ill-prepared is really understating things. Teams that want to win a Championship do not put up disgusting performances like this. Now the Stanley Cup is going to be in the building for Game 6. I just can't fathom how sick I am. I'll get over it by tomorrow, but I can't get over disappointment well.

This is the second appearance in the SCF. They talked about experience of last year and all that crap. There is no sugarcoating this I'm afraid. Just inexcusable.

XT and Ed - you can be as pessimistic as you want and XT - I'm disappointed in YOU for turning off the game. You know what I'm thinking right now. The bottom line is - as much as we've sucked tonight, I don't think either of you or anyone else here EVER expected these guys to make the playoffs, much less get to the SCF's. If you want to give up on 'em, have at it, but I've never given up on my teams in the past and I'm not going to start now.
