Ovechkin tops Malkin for MVP awards

LAS VEGAS -- The Penguins' Evgeni Malkin lost out to popular Washington Capitals left winger Alex Ovechkin for the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP at the league's awards show tonight at the Pearl Theater in the Palms Resort and Casino.
Ovechkin had 115 first-place votes and 1,264 points to Malkin's 12 first-place votes and 787 points. Detrtoit's Pavel Datsyuk was third with 404 points.
Ovechkin also beat out Malkin and Datsyuk for the Lester B. Pearson Award, given to the most outstanding player in a vote of fellow players.
Malkin was named the center on the NHL's first-team all-star team.
Malkin, who won the Art Ross Trophy as the league's leading scorer with 113 points, joins right winger Jarome Iginla of Calgary, Ovechkin, defensemen Zdeno Chara of Boston and Mike Green of Washington, and goaltender Tim Thomas of Boston on the first team.
Penguins center Sidney Crosby was named the third-team center. He was a finalist for the Fan Fav Award, the first MVP-type regular-season honor decided by fan vote. That went to Vancouver goaltender Roberto Luongo. Crosby also was a finalist for the Mark Messier Leadership Award, which went to Iginla.

Real MVPs take their teams all the way through the playoffs and into the Stanley Cup Final and WIN it for them!
But we'll let him have that trophy while Geno has Lord Stanley's Cup to drink his champagne out of! :sofunny:
