i was thinking of starting this thread the other day and i finally got around to it. i know how all of you guys LOVE the Pittsburgh Steelers. some, more than others, would die for your team and if you could pick any super power it would be to infact bleed black and gold. but i just have to ask this one question and i don't want to pick any fights and i don't want to be the d*ckhead of the group (if i haven't already been established as such). but i know for the fact that there are people out there who hate us...and they LOVE to hate us. Steelers fans and the Steelers organization itself. so, i ask you this...

...what do YOU really dislike or what displeases you about the PIttsburgh Steelers? i know everyone (fan or not) has their little buggaboos and nitpicks and things they really can't stand. i know i have a few. but, i want to know what really grinds your gears SteelersFever.com members. top 50...i'll kick it off.

50. not that this really has anything to do with the franchise or organization itself, but it's more directed towards the haters and opposing fans. i HATE it when the only comeback and stupid nickname people have for our team is the "Shitsburgh Squealers!" i think that is one of the LAMEST nicknames and comebacks of all time and it drives me up the wall. granted, every team has their own nickname opposing fans give them, but our nickname is the dumbest i've ever heard and i hate it. truly.

haha! that's a good one. that pisses me off to the fullest. i love all Pittsburgh teams, but i respect a lot of other professional sports all over the nation. a lot of teams i don't really care for (a lot in PA) but i also respect the person...THE PERSON who roots for a team that i don't like. i'll bust their chops and make them feel like crap for being a fan of that team, but it's all in good fun and i give them the utmost props for loving their team through thick and thin. there's nothing wrong with having friends who love other teams.

bigger irony for the Penn State comment is Franco Harris and Jack Ham are from Penn State and we have had a Penn State alum on our roster in all 7 of our Super Bowl appearences.

I dont remember any good Pitt players playing for the Steelers

I have a picture of when I was SIX wearing a Steelers jersey. When I was 12, my entire room was done in B&G, including black and gold drapes (they didn't even have such things back then, my mom had to make them).

ahhh...the homemade Steelers memorabilia. when i was 7, i had a Hanes white tee with black and yellow Sharpie'd stripes on the sleeves and the numbers "1/2" written on them. the highlight was, it was a custom jersey. it had my last name on it. mom was an excellent craftswoman. haha!

im going out on a limb here. take it easy on me...

Picture 1972 wearing my black hat with gold ball.. carrying a trombone to school..
not being very big for my age. living on the east side of cleveland. getting beat for being a steelers fan. then.. here the one thing i hate and still hear to this day.
how dumb the steelers are and back in the day, in 1972-75 how dumb bradshaw is .. 6 superbowls later i still here cleveland folks saying how dumb the steelers are.. and they cheat so much.. its bizzare... luckily i do live in Florida now.

We have some great steeler bars down here.

ps. my father made us all steeler fans because he hated modell back in the 60's already.

I guess it just gets to be a thorn in the side when the media is only reporting the terrible stories instead of the feel good stories like what Ben does with the police forces, or Spaeth and the deaf community. I mean really if these guys weren't famous would we hear one word about what they were doing on their day off? And why in the hell are we so enamored with knowing what they are doing?

I would compare it to an article on what Obama is doing on his day off. I DON'T CARE what he does with his family or on his down time. Leave the man alone for a few hours to be a father and husband. I'm more concerned with what he does for the nation. While the articles on his down time may be a good read, it's irrelevant to his position.

1. now that Troy Polamalu is on the cover of Madden NFL 10...here's comes the Madden Curse to Pittsburgh. if that be the cae, let the Madden Curse hit up Arizona too. haha!

there is no Madden Curse. there are no such thing as curses. except the Redsox...and maybe the Pirates since Bonds left...and the Curse of the Black Pearl...and curse words! ANYWAYS...

i don't think that is the number one reason i dislike the Steelers. but i'm sure we'll hear a lot about the Madden Curse now.

my true number one reason i dislike the Steelers has to be the amount of bandwagoners and fari weather fans. i know we've discussed that topic 100 times over and probably 1,000 times since i've been on the boards, but i have to admit, i hate bandwagoners and fairweather fans. granted, i'm in no place to criticize people on their fandom. i'm torn because Rasheed Wallace went to the Celtics and i hate the Celtics. hate them. but i still love Rasheed. so, i don't want to sound like a hypocrite. but when someone from Pittsburgh who i KNOW loves the Steelers tells me she wants the Patriots to win because "Tom Brady is smokin' hot!" (and that's the ONLY reason) really makes me sick.

1. fairweather fans, bandwagoners, and opposing fans and their stupid nicknames for us. but then again, it's not the franchises fault we are so awesome and everyone is jealous of our awesomeness. haha! that's my REAL number one.

Hey, that worked for me once. On the last play of the Super Bowl. It was one of the most exciting video game finishes to anything ever. Although for some reason it was against the Rams, which doesn't make any sense at all.

Dude, no way! I beat the Rams in the super bowl with that play. Over 70 yards. Touchdown, time expired, and I won. It was crazy.

Yeah, I play Madden.

One thing I've noticed: The vast majority of these "complaints" are more fan related or opposing team's fans related rather than about our team. I think that speaks volumes. We don't have too much to complain about with our team, do we? It's a nice place to be.

48. Steelers fans who also root for PSU. That drives me crazy.:flap:

I heard that.

Funny considering a good fraction of Penn State's PA Resident Alum live in Allegheny County. Not to mention there are a fair amount of PSU Fans that live in Pittsburgh.

37. Fans who know better than the coaches and FO

That annoys me to. Until you have played, coached. reffed, or have had something to do with organized Football(Meaning you weren't just being a fan, I'm talking along the lines of someone who is a Front office employee) in reality, you don't know what it's like.

28a. Those who think that because I live in the Philadelphia, PA area that I should be an Eagles fan... especially that ex-wife of mine..... :banging:

That is very annoying. I've went to other cities(Washington, DC for example) and a good fraction of the people that live there are STEELERS fans. It probably has nothing to do with the fact that the Skins play in Landover either.

23. People who :pw: in these kind of threads. . .

Oh wait.... DANG IT. :chuckle:

You're a creature of your own hatred.

21. New "fans" who will be wearing a different color jersey come mid-season.

Nothing more needs to be said :drink:

18. People who NEVER show up around here when the Steelers are winning but are the first to point their fickled fingers of fooktard-ism as soon as the Steelers lose a game. :upyours:

Hmmmm, something you and I hold in common.

16. Scapegoat hunters. :banging:

Individual moments might screw up games, but at the end of the day if the TEAM doesn't come back, then odds are they don't deserve to win.

i dont know truck....

in the days of s. mcnair and d. stallworth, i love reading about our players working out with t. shaw in orlando, ben golfing with MJ, spaeth working with and learning from deaf children, heath miniature golfing, and sweed spending time with sickle cell patients.

sure beats motorcycle accidents, bitchslaps over baptismals, and whatever the hell c. wilson had going on (hostage situations locking down neighborhoods) with that woman he was with (whatever it was it ended his career).

It can be comforting to know that the Players are doing what they're supposed to be doing or are doing something else that is good.

3. the know it all fans that think that nobody watches the games, or knows the game quite as well as they do. as if they're the only ones that have ever played organized football...

(See my response to Rev.)

2.

The EA Sports Madden Know it All fan that thinks because a Play Action pass on 4th and 35 from your own 18 yard line gets a touchdown in the Video Game that it will work on Sunday in the real NFL!!!

Here's another pet peeve. Just because something works in a Video Game, doesn't mean it works in real life.

Anyway something that annoys me hmmmmm. When people think that if a team loses just 1 game, that they suck and that they're entitled to have an undefeated team and championships every year when in reality they're entitled to have bad years every once in awhile. In addition whenever they claim to have been sticking behind a team the whole time, but bash a team when they lose.

49. The ridiculous argument asserted ONLY by some Pittsburghers that you must live in Pittsburgh to be a REAL Steeler fan, or the equally ridiculous argument that if you are a Steeler fan, you MUST only be fan of other Pittsburgh teams, or, again, you aren't a real fan.

Ha. Ya know, I just had that happen to me today.

I was at Mayhem Fest here in California and I was wearing my Steelers hat. Some dude comes to me and asks "Are you from Pittsburgh?" I say 'no,' and then he asks why I'm wearing the hat...(what a dumb f***ing question). So then I obviously say "I'm a Steelers fan man, why else?" And then he starts asking me how long I've been a fan....I hate those people... :banging::banging:

I am in the military and move around quite often, and I am always wearing Steelers gear (I even have a Steelers tattoo on my leg!). When I see someone else wearing Steelers gear I always ask if they're from Pittsburgh. Usually they say yes and we BS about the area and the Steelers, but even if they say no I don't hold that against them. Alot of people grew up watching the Steelers and becoming a fan of their work ethic. My family is from Pittsburgh and I don't know what I'd do without Steelers football, but all because someone isn't FROM Pittsburgh doesn't mean they can't be a fan! :)

Heinz Field isn't "dahntahn" - it's on the North Shore. I don't get where you're going with the "entire Steelers experience being ruined" - I haven't noticed a decline in tailgating parties and drunks filing into Heinz Field to ruin the "experience" for those of us who don't enjoy listening to F bombs and belches all game while having beer dumped on us by unruly drunks while we're trying to enjoy the "experience". :noidea:

The only complaint I have about Heinz Field is that they didn't close in the south endzone. Personally, while I'm at the game I don't much care to see the dahntahn city lights. I'd rather close it in and let there be an opportunity for more fans to make more noise.

If i wanted to see dahntahn, then I'd sit outside the stadium and look at it or go to a Pirates game.

i'm going to have to politely disagree with you on that one. one of my big gripes about Heinz Field itself is that it doesn't show enough of the city. the only view you get from the south end is that ugly concrete monstrosity and the east side of Station Square. kind of boring. if they would rotate the south end opening about 500 feet to the left, you'd have a better view of the city than PNC Park does. and that's saying a lot. i would like to see more of the city if i was facing the south opening.

Since we're on the topic of Heinz Field. Personally, I love the stadium, but I am torn between the Open End VS Three Rivers closed bowl. I go to many Steelers games, and take pride when the fans get super loud and come home to tell people that "didn't you hear how crazy it was on tv? I was there contributing.." Heinz can get LOUD, but imagine what 65,000 + can do with extra added seats with a bowl like Three Rivers. Nonetheless, it doesn't matter to me but at the same time makes you wonder.

One thing I hate is when people try to over load and try to prove they are a fan. I had countless and countless of friends come over to where they would force to yell at the t.v to like prove to me they are a worthy fan. I go nuts and it comes normal, but when I see people forcing it that drives me insane.

Too many assholes who if you stand to cheer the defense or stand when a big play is coming, tell you to sit down because they pay money to come watch the game. (Like I don't or something?)

why would this be true? you don't need direct experience to be able to think strategy.

You don't, but playing/coaching the game does give you more insight to the the nuances of technique, the gameplan, play selection, etc. As opposed to just reading other's analysis. It doesn't mean you automatically know any more then the next guy, but it does help with understanding the little things that make up the big picture that the average fan might not have insight into, especially since you don't know to look for it on TV.

For instance, you could just say "The line sucks!" when Ben is sacked, but you may not realize WHY the line sucks, or, if it was indeed the line at all. I love watching linemen and their technique...things I wouldn't have noticed had I not played or coached. Hand movement, feet, stance, posture.

That being said, I do hate it when people (sometimes on this board) just demean others opinions or observations, saying "Well I KNOW because I PLAYED/COACHED the game!" That's nonsense...sure you played, but you could have sucked. You might have coached, but you also could have sucked.

Football is chess, not checkers. Simply realizing the complicated nature of the game is beyond many, and actually understanding that complication leaves out most.
