Chat with James Walker

Welcome to SportsNation! On Tuesday, ESPN.com AFC North blogger James Walker will stop by to chat about the NFL and what to expect from your team.

Walker joined ESPN.com in 2008 after three seasons covering the Cleveland Browns for the Columbus Dispatch.

Send your questions now and join James Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET!

Coreen (Davis, CA)

earlier today you mentioned that you thought the AFC North had "little national fanfare," I was wondering what you meant by that?
James Walker
(4:16 PM)

What I mean is the division, as a whole, doesn't get a lot of national attention unless two teams are playing in the AFC title game and it forces the media's hand. The Steelers may be the exception but they had to earn it by consistently winning and staying in the title hunt year after year. The Ravens, Browns and Bengals are not even close compared to the fanfare teams like Dallas and New England get. And Dallas hasn't won a playoff game since 1996.

c.j (pittsburgh)

J.W I think Steelers should sign FWP first bc need a1-2 punch in the running games.Miller Reed BIG Snack sign these GUY PLEASSSSSE

James Walker
Don't beg me, C.J. I don't make the decisions; I just write about them.

baer (baltimore)
what team has the best group of LBs?

James Walker
(4:18 PM)
Pittsburgh has the best starting linebackers in the division and the NFL, Baer. :tt03::tt::tt03::tt:

Sean (VA)
What do the think of L.Sweed chances of taking the 3wr position with the Steelers?

James Walker
(4:41 PM)
Very good. It's harder in the NFL to get open than catch the ball. He has the hard part down already.

Will (IN)
Any chance the Steelers use Dennis Dixon in some kind of wild cat formation this year?

James Walker
(4:45 PM)
He's going to have to beat Charlie Batch out for the backup job to be active on gamedays. If he's the No. 3 QB, by rule Pittsburgh can't put Dixon on the field without keeping Ben Roethlisberger out the game.

Craig (Pittsburgh)

James, how do you see Ziggy Hood's role evolving this year barring injuries.. do you see him getting significant time on the DL rotation or getting more spot action in the short yardage package?

James Walker
(4:49 PM)
He's going to create his own role based on his play. I think he has the potential to be the fourth defensive lineman as a rookie and play maybe 10 or so snaps a game in different positions. If someone in front of him gets hurt, he will need to step it up more.

Jay (IN)
How has Bruce Davis been looking. It seems like he hasn't done much the Steelers drafted him.

James Walker
(5:00 PM)
Bruce Davis has looked better this offseason and the Steelers may need him this year for depth. He was pretty good at rushing the passer in college. So if that's all he does well this year, that would be a good contribution.

Well, that's that. If he's #2, I see little chance of them risking him, and if he's #3 he CAN'T play.

That's why I would have carried him on the roster last year as some other position, and listed him as an emergency QB, but that's just me...

So being a #3 QB you cant play unless the 2 other QB's are injured? I dont understand...

Or are they saying as a #3 QB he will be inactive....

Im confused.

i would list dixon as a #2 qb and if ben goes down and out for the game let batch enter to the game, and if ben has a chance to come back let dixon one or 2 series ...
pretty much what baltimore did with troy smith last year

I would have no problem with that, I think it just depends on how comfortable Dixon is with the offense. We'll see how he does.

I still say Dixon will overtake Batch this year. It is time to start working him in because Batch is starting to get some age on him and he isn't no Brett Farve.
