...just as predicted. They simply spent the money first, so it's spend and tax liberals instead of tax and spend. Whatever...I'm sure this will go a long way to helping end the financial crush almost every man woman and child in the country has been enduring...

Spin away, lefties...

Geithner will not rule out tax hike New revenue needed to lower federal deficit, overhaul health care
Published on Monday, Aug 03, 2009

Associated Press
WASHINGTON: President Barack Obama's Treasury secretary said Sunday he cannot rule out higher taxes to help tame an exploding budget deficit, and his chief economic adviser would not dismiss raising them on middle-class Americans as part of a health-care overhaul.

As the White House sought to balance campaign rhetoric with governing, officials appeared willing to extend unemployment benefits. With former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan saying he is ''pretty sure we've already seen the bottom'' of the recession, Obama aides sought to defend the economic stimulus and calm a jittery public.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and National Economic Council Director Larry Summers both sidestepped questions about Obama's intentions on taxes. Geithner said the White House was not ready to rule out a tax hike to lower the federal deficit; Summers said Obama's proposed health-care overhaul needs funding from somewhere.

''There is a lot that can happen over time,'' Summers said, adding that the administration believes ''it is never a good idea to absolutely rule things out, no matter what.''

During his presidential campaign, Obama repeatedly vowed ''you will not see any of your taxes increase one single dime.'' But the reality remains that his ambitious overhaul of how Americans receive health care promised without increasing the federal deficit must be paid for.

''If we want an economy that's going to grow in the future, people have to understand we have to bring those deficits down. . . . And the path to that is through health-care reform,'' Geithner said. ''We're not at the point yet where we're going to make a judgment about what it's going to take.''

Selling that proposal, however, has proved tricky.

On Friday, the government released a report that suggested the recession appears on the verge of ending.

The president cautioned against instant turnaround, though.
''Well, as I've said, I think we maybe are beginning to see the end of the recession, but it's still going to be some time before we are seeing companies hiring again. That's usually the last thing that happens,'' Obama said in an interview with Univision that aired on Sunday.

Health care reform = grow the economy.

Do they honestly think America is that stupid?

All I can do is sit back and laugh at the dupes who bought Obama's "no tax increases" line of :bs: hook, line and sinker. Did anyone REALLY think that we weren't going to see any tax hikes? I'm sure there will be those who will defend it and say that "well, what would you rather have, health care or lower taxes?" Hmm, let me see...crappy government health "care" in one hand...not going broke paying for that crappy government health "care" in the other.

Seems like a no-brainer to me.

I'll take "not going broke" for $500, Alex.

Health care reform = grow the economy.

Do they honestly think America is that stupid?

Of course they do. How else would they continue to fool the public into putting them in office?

Here's the funny thing, most of my liberal friends told me they EXPECTED tax increases. The liberals actually want these tax increases. They've bought in to the Paul Begala way of thinking that paying more money to the government is their patriotic duty. It's a scary thing to hear.

Wow. Just...wow.

OK, let's see how much they feel it's their "patriotic duty" to pay more money to the government when they have to make ends meet on 40-45% of their monthly salary and they're on a 12-month waiting list for simple arthroscopic surgery.

Why wouldn't they think that?. America was stupid enough to elect them in the first place... why wouldn't America buy into a little more BS? :noidea:

In a decade or so, someone will write a book about the 2008 election and it will be a fascinating potrait of the perfect storm that happened to get an inexperienced junior Senator elected to the highest office in the land.
