Remember the wooden puppet Pinocchio? Every time he lied, his nose grew longer. Pinocchio’s lie-driven nose growth is a more appropriate image for the current Republican party than the traditional elephant’s trunk. The party now seems a cartoon of itself, its body politic being squeezed to death by its boa-constrictor nose.

Lies and disregard for evidence has marked Republican strategy for decades. It was lies about WMD that led to the Iraq war, lies about torture that condoned those practices of so-called “enhanced interrogation,” lies about Guantanamo, lies about rendition, lies about Bush/Cheney’s surveillance policy. The Bush/Cheney years demonstrated that lies repeated often enough are taken for truth. It’s a script from Karl Rove and Nazi chief Hermann Goering’s playbook.

“Of course the people don’t want war,” Goering said at the Nuremberg Trials, April 1946. “But after all, it’s the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it’s always a simple matter to drag people along whether it’s a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. This is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to greater danger.” Sound familiar?

Of course, there’s a major difference between Pinocchio and current Republican leadership. Pinocchio wanted to be a real boy but Republicans don’t seem to want to be a mature party. Reality is inconvenient. They’ve gotten away with lies for so long, why change? Now the Pinocchio Republicans are in high gear spreading lies about President Obama’s birth by saying he’s not a natural born citizen; and about a public option in health care reform -- it will kill old people, and the government will take away your freedom to choose your doctors.

One could laugh. How could anybody believe such nonsensical claims? But the lies are dangerous because if believed, they will damage the nation even more and negatively affect every American for many years to come.

Media, with a few notable exceptions like Bill Moyers, Keith Olberman, and Rachel Maddow, only aid and abet the lies by spinning them as “news.”

The party of Pinocchio doesn’t seem to give a damn for evidence or accuracy. They’re out to stall, distract, subvert, and damage Obama’s presidency at any cost and they’re in collusion with their insurance and pharmaceutical industry backers to prevent any meaningful healthcare reform.

The consistent stream of “no’s” from the party has morphed into its grotesquely deformed proboscis. What’s needed in the 2010 election is a big nose job for the Republican Pinocchios! The millions of supporters who said “No” to Republicans last fall have their voting scalpels poised!

Oh boy...this is probably one of the least credible articles I've ever read. To suggest that Keith Olberman has no agenda is beyond ridiculous. He's one of the MOST biased journalists, perhaps EVER...

When I saw the name "Olbermann," I quickly hit the back button. Not worth my time.

When are you Libs going to finally realize that we GOP'ers don't give a rat's ass what you or the Lib media honkers think about our former President who has now been out of office for almost 7 months? :banging: Your Savior is in the spotlight now and according to recent opinion polls, is failing faster than a newborn taking a college entrace exam.

Since your Savior and his disciples voted "yay" to the evil war monger's diabolical plots and Obaaaaaaaaaaama adopted most of the Bush policies that he abhored during his run for the White House, I guess that makes him and his sidekicks Pinocchio clones too.

One and done. :applaudit: Be afraid in 2010 and 2012. Be VERY afraid. :drink:

Has anyone ever seen olbermann and maddow in the same place? "he's" nellie enough to be "her", and "she's", well uh, nellie enough to be "him".:rofl::rofl: Just askin'.

So let me see if I can follow this. The author believes that the elephants are the party of Pinocchio. And the donkeys are what, the oracle of truth and virtue?

I make no pretense at defense of the elephants. They can speak for themselves if they ever find a voice.

I do, and always will, take issue with any presentation of donkeys (and all their kindred spirits - liberals, progressives, nazis, bolsheviks, whatever) as being anything but the manifestation of lies.

Regardless of the form in which "socialism" is "presented", it is a lie. It is the bane of human existence. It has been fought and cast off wherever it has been fully implemented. It has littered the globe with hundreds of millions of perished souls that merely stood in opposition to the lies. How many more must perish before humankind says "ENOUGH!" and strings the remaining socialist bastards up as they did Mussolini?

socialism is a dirty word, except in the closed enclaves of socialists. That's why socialists fall all over themselves (read: lie) to avoid any association with socialism. That's why the bho's of the world enshroud themselves in hollow sloganeering and vacuous packaging. If they told the truth they wouldn't have a snowball's chance in hell of being elected.

The entire socialist existence and every socialist "position" is wrong, and can only be foisted on humankind by lies. The "author" attempts to make parallels between the elephants and the nazis. The nazis were socialists, and that human wasteland we conquered was a glaring example of what socialism is. To attempt to make such an analogy is ridiculous. Indeed it was an elephant General that defeated the nazis.

Interesting "article". I had called the donkeys the "party of lies" for decades. It wasn't until it had become painfully obvious that abortion was the centerpiece of their "thinking", and that they had abandoned all else that I called them the "party of death" (BTW, read pages 425-430 of obh's "healthcare" bill). But the donkeys have "grown" to "champion" all manner of perversion, corruption, stupidity and filth so that those names are too narrow for these "modern" donkeys. I'll give them their due - they are the "party of satan".

Troops home from the Middle East yet? Gitmo closed yet? Warrantless wiretapping ended yet? :coffee:

Me thinks Olbermann has OCD. Instead of obsessing and compulsing over a former President who hasn't been in office in almost 7 months, if I were him, I'd be more concerned about not having a job in 3 years and a couple odd months.

Come on now, we all know that picture is a more accurate description of the average republican voter than of Olberman. I mean, just look at the red states. Hard core trailer territory in them there parts, you hear?

The average republican voter (and democrat voter for that matter) has something that Keith Olberman lost long ago...a code of ethics.

If the "average" republican voter is ignorant.....how can they be the driving force behind the "evil" corporations?

(Probably need to think out your prejudice before you post...)

Actually, that would be you in the other thread.

And either the GOP is the party of rich elitists, or they are the party of the down and outers...

You can't have it both ways.

So you dispute that Unions came to exist because workers were being exploited? I don't remember saying anything beyond that. Please, feel free to put words in my mouth as you see fit.

I don't remember having it either of those ways. I have enough common sense to realize that BOTH PARTIES cover BOTH of those demographics. I guess I've been able to escape the party indoctrination that seems so prevalent these days.

Then you are one of the few... welcome.

What kills me is that people simply throw darts at each other and hurl rhetoric without much thought behind it.

fact is, there are two competing cores of thought with multiple positions in each core, many of which overlap the other. People of all walks of life belong to either core.

The core is: Should people be responsible to self and failure of individuals be accepted by others... or, Should people be responsible to govt. and govt. is responsible to help people avoid failure.

I belong to the former, many to the latter. So be it.
