i got this idea from Gutterflowersteel with her "What Are You Listening To Right Now?" thread that is super hot and huge. so, i started a movie thread. enjoy. =)

"The Soloist" wasn't really as good as i thought it was going to be either. it was a great looking movie, but i thought Jamie Foxx was playing a mentally challenged Ray Charles and Robert Downey, Jr. was mediocre at best. not a good pick.

one of my favorite movies of all time. i still messes with my head a little bit after i get done watching it. i could probably watch it over and over and catch something new everytime. it's like watching it for the first time everytime you watch it. i can't think of another movie that actually does that.

i was honestly disappointed with this film. i can't put my finger on it, but i just didn't like it. granted, i never really liked Clint Eastwood. i understand his appeal and i get why he's such an icon and a legend in cinema, but i don't like him much at all. i like him more as a director. "Mystic River", "Changeling", and "A Perfect World" are all amazing films. "Gran Torino" was a poop flick. haha!

to me, that is the best and most underrated graphic novel to film adaptation around. those movies are SOOO fun. i think the only tru type of superheroes are anti-heroes. HellBoy is the definitive anti-hero next to Blade. i love those films and i'm sure a 3rd one is in the works, but not till after Guillermo Del Toro tackles "The Hobbit" in 2011 and 2012. i'll keep my fingers crossed on that one. haha!

yeah, i was on the fence with that movie too. but that rape scene was pretty unbearable to watch. i have seen one that was 100 times worse. it's a 15 minute long scene that is one camera angle and it doesn't cut away at all. it's an Italian fi;m called "Irreversible" by Gaspar Noe. it's REALLY intense.

"The Last House on the Left" was decent. it was just really intense and had a lot of shock value. but i can live without seeing it again.

"Changeling" wasn't really a scary movie per se. but it was a pretty frightening film in the aspect that it was based on a true story. it just showed the devious nature of man in the wake of glory and money, greed, and corruption. all of that taken out on an innocent child and the women who fought for offspring. it was probably thebest performance by Angelina Jolie and Eastwood's best directed film. i loved that movie.

a movie that really blew me away, speaking of kidnap films, "Gone Baby Gone." that movie floored me to no end. great flick.

I have to agree with you...I was VERY dissapointed in Gran Torino...I thought the acting of the two young Korean brother and sister was AWFUL and not very believable.

I had the feeling through the whole movie that it was awkward....so close to having the makings of a good flick that could be emotionally charged but never really getting there.

I think the "Changeling" movie they are talking about is the one with Angelina Jolie....the one you are talking about is the one with George C. Scott and THAT one scared the poo out of me as a teenager!!!

you live 45 minutes from the actual place? i live 35 minutes from where it was filmed! haha! it's kind of cool to see a place in a film where you've actually lived and been. it's kind of crazy. the new version of "My Bloody Valentine" was filmed there too.

"The Mothman Prophecies" scared the sh*t out of me. it wasn't a jumpy terror...but just a nice deep bone chilling scare that made me think every rredlight poking through the trees was the Mothman himself. it made me scared to be out by myself at night. haha!

that is such a great line. i used it the other night flirting with the bartender. i was trying to throw a bar pretzel in a cup behind her. my buddies bet i couldn't do it. and she was like, "what're you doing?" in a playful way. i said, "i'm trying to throw this come!" when i meant to say "cup!" and i said..."oh sh*t! that came out wrong." she said, "yeah...it sounded weird. good thing that wasn't awkward." i said, "yeah, i swallowed a bug right when i was saying that!" she laughed and said, "yeah...right!"

so, i made an ass out of myself. but i had good ol' "Good Will Hunting" to back me up. haha!

it's honestly amazing how great movies like that sort of bleed into your subconscious and you will always remember them in way way or another. it's rare that you can ever forget a good movie, but to remember certain lines and re-enact certain moments like it was YOUR live played out on a screen is a great thing. i guess that would be the magic of film and the concept of life imitating art. i can't tell you how many times i'f used one-liners from "Snatch" to put people in their place. haha!

Love me some Jay and Silent Bob.

"Chasing Amy" was the best of the Jay and SIlent Bob movies. "Mallrats" was good, but overly campy. "Clerks" was a great movie, but it was a dialouge driven film as oppsed to an acting driven film. it wouldn't have been so good if it wasn't s damn funny. "Dogma" was a good script, but poorly executed. then the movies just got worse and worse. i love Kevin Smith as a writer, but his directing his own scripts is getting old. he's comdey's version of Quentin Tarantino. great reads and great dialouge, but visually unimpressive.

That reminds me of Zack and Miri Make a Porno. Jason Mewes(Jay) really looked like crap. He had a really shitty upbringing (read his bio if you want the details), and ended up having a bad drug problem. Anyway, by the way he looked in Zack and Miri, he's probably back on heroin. "Formula 51" was really good. i think Robert Carlyle is probably one of the most underrated actors around. i loved "28 Weeks Later" and "Trainspotting." he's so intense and always off his rocker. he's a good actor.

Samuel L. Jackson is a great actor too. he's sort of rubbing thin on me though. the only reason i like him anymore is because he is so versatile. he does everything. like "The Spirit" and "Lakeview Terrace" were both good movies...for him. i just think "Pulp Fiction" threw him in the limelight and he hasn't really been able to recapture that role again, but then again, like i said, he's so versatile. "Afro Samurai" is the sickest animation EVER put on film. hands down.

Francis Begbie from "Trainspotting" is probably one of the craziest characters i've ever seen on film. he's utterly insane and i love it. that movie is definitely in my top 10 of all time.

"28 Days/Weeks Later" are both killer films. i love the feel and style of them. plus, it's almost relevant in the sense that something like that could happen. i don't mean the zombies, but the entire world being innihalated by plague and diseas. great flicks.

"Afro Samurai" should be made into a movie. i don't think Jackson is physically capable of playing him as a live action character. but after seeing Marlon Wayans in "G.I. Joe" and how jacked he was, he could play that role. Mos Def as Afro's sidekick. haha!

"A History of Violence" with Viggo Mortensen, Mario Bello, Ed Harris, and William Hurt. GREAT movie. a little too short and a dispostioned narrative thread. but solid acting, beautiful directing, and horrific violence, gore, and chock value.

last night: "A Haunting in Connecticut"

tonight: "Step Brothers"

"i'm not going to call him 'dad'...even if there's a fire!" haha! classic. probably the funniest movie i've ever seen. ha!

The 3rd quarter is especially entertaining. For one, it shows the refs actually getting something right.

That movie kills me. I've seen it twice and anytime I see it on, I stop and watch. There's something about it that draws you in.

I watched an old horror flick called "The Brain That Wouldn't Die" the other night. For some reason I started remembering Chiily Billy from when I was a kid & after a Google search I found a treasure trove of B-movie info!

Just watched Drag Me to Hell and I've got to say it's classic Sam Raimi. If you like the humor of Evil Dead, especially Army of Darkness, this is that type of movie. If you looking for that super scary, jump out of your seat movie, this ain't it.

Im gonna see Inglorious Bastards sometime soon.

IMHO, IB was one of the the better films in a long while. Superbly written. Superbly directed and acted. Typical Tarantino bent screw perspective - "this is how the war would have ended had my actors influenced the outcome". Christopher Waltz nailed SS Colonel Landa. Oscar performance for the first chapter alone.
