Jeremy Shockey squaring off against several Texans.

Jeremy Shockey, Buck Ortega, Troy Evans and unspecified Saints started brawls today.

Here's what you need to know in the Shockey Bout: New Orleans' Shockey got in a brawl with Houston's DeMeco Ryans. Split decision after Shockey threw a punch but Ryans and teammate Xavier Adibi took the tight end to the ground.

Here's what happened:

Houston's DeMeco Ryans was guarding TE Jeremy Shockey on a passing route. His fists were full of jersey and Shockey wasn't very keen on the idea of being held.

So, with his right arm, he swung behind his back and hit Ryans in the head.

Well, Ryans didn't like this, you see, and walked up to Shockey and began barking in his face.

Then he pushed Shockey and the melee was on.

Shockey threw some rights, got pushed back, then hit back. Houston's Xavier Adibi pushed both Ryans and Shockey down to the ground and you know what happens after that. Lots of fun.

The Ortega Ordeal wasn't great in comparison, but a scrum did ensue. It was more your normal full team scrum started by Saints TE Buck Ortega.

The early defensive fight is rumored to be started by New Orleans' Anthony Hargrove and involved Rod Coleman as well as LB Troy Evans. This, too, appeared much like the Ortega Ordeal in the sense that it was a bunch of players on top of each other very quickly.

Evans started his donnybrook soon after he tried to start one. A play after the first scrum, Evans got into it with a Houston running back, but the officials broke it up quickly.

Minutes later, Evans was tackling Houston's Ryan Moats when Evans decided he had had enough. Evans pulled Moats down and ripped his helmet off, getting in some haymakers in the time being.

The crowd certainly loved it all. Seriously. Loudest cheers of the day.

Nice to see Shockey has remained such a fine, upstanding NFL citizen and role model.

I like the guy. Just wish he would put all that extra energy to use on the field.

I saw a brief clip on ESPN a moment ago, looked like he was retaliating to a Demeco Ryans shoulder push. Hey I don't have no beef with either of them, pretty nice fight!

That's my problem with the guy. He is loaded with talent, but his brain isn't big enough to let him harness it and use it. He runs his mouth and pulls this crap more often than he gets thrown to.

The Giants were thrilled to be rid of him. Any wonder the team became better when he went down with a broken leg for the year?
