The United Way of Allegheny County will begin its 2009 campaign during halftime of tonight's Steelers game at Heinz Field. The agency raised $31.2 million in 2008.

Representatives from three of the more than 700 United Way workplace campaigns in Pittsburgh will compete during a halftime kickoff event to mark the start of this year's campaign. The kicker who makes the most field goals, starting at the 5-yard line, will win the right to donate the first $10,000 in his company's name to the United Way's Impact Fund.

Ray Wesolowski of Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield will kick for Youth Initiatives. Robert Hoover of UPS will kick for Struggling Families. Matt Wehrle of PPG Industries will kick for Senior Initiatives. Wesolowski and Hoover have no kicking experience. Wehrle, a punter in high school and college, told United Way officials he hasn't kicked a ball in years.

The Steelers host the Buffalo Bills in the preseason game at 7:30 p.m.
