Tomlin's response to an interview question by Bob Costas regarding the current trend of young HCs being hired by NFL teams as opposed to older, established big-name coaches during halftime of the Bears/Broncos game: "we're cheap labor." :chuckle:

He's probably right. Except his price just went up.

fixed the thread title for you. :wink02:

:chuckle:

he will play out this year on his current contract (while he deserves a raise, he will get it on the steelers timeline for his extension).

i think the steelers easilly make him a top 5 paid coach, and i believes he takes less than market value to accept their deal. he will take a hometown discount, because i think he is well aware that if he sticks with this franchise he can build a legacy that will be one of the greatest of all time.

he is gold.

Tomlin suggests Ben's lawsuit kept Steelers from chasing Vick

Posted by Mike Florio on August 30, 2009 9:48 PM ET
In a taped halftime interview with Bob Costas of NBC, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said that he opted not to pursue the possibility of pursuing quarterback Mike Vick due to the existence of a civil suit against starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

"Given some of the things that my quarterback was going through, I didn't think it was the appropriate time to add another quarterback to the mix," Tomlin said. "He's going through somewhat of a trying time with the civil allegation, a case against him. I didn't want to do anything that was less than supportive to Ben."

So Tomlin admitted that the Steelers might have been in the running for Vick but for the civil suit against Roethlisberger, pointing out that it's "a big if."

I thought we banned Florio and his garbage from ever being mentioned here again.

Yeah, I think the Steelers would have "considered" Vick...not to sign him but to see what he looked like in case he ended up in the division or on a team we faced this season.

I think I read on the Internet (so it has to be true) that Tomlin's contract was for four years with an option for a fifth. That is probably why the Rooneys decided to not extend him this season. Obviously, He will get an extention.

Cheap labor until proven otherwise. Which he most certainly has done, and thus will obviously be justly rewarded for it.

I swear I saw Costas on the Wizard of Oz. Look how small he is compared to Mike, and Tomlin's not a big guy.

In Tomlin's case, cheap labor for 3 years.....A shiny new ring changes negotiating position in favor of the employee.
