Just wondering with all of the ballyhoo around Kiesel's extension and Smith/Hampton's contracts.....

How soon will Ziggy Hood become a starter?

i think they'll start subbing him in on 3rd downs like we used to do with Keisel

When Aaron Smith retires probably... :twocents:

A couple years, probably.

In the meantime, he'll probably start to get rotated in for a few plays at a time to give the other guys a break. He could get significant playing time as the top backup if he's any good, like Timmons did last year.

Whenever Casey leaves - 2016

I believe his initial start will come ala Jack Lambert's route - an injury. Then post injury he'll prove to vital to take out of the game.

I say someone gets hurt, probably Keisel, and then Ziggy proves to be so good Keisel ends up the top backup for the DE's.

Ziggy will play in the sub package defenses and rush the passer from the interior but I don't see him as a full time starter at the earliest until 2010. The Steelers are fine along the DL with their starters and there is really no rush to start Ziggy. Let him be a wave player along the DL this year. Let him take snaps at both DE and NT this year. Trust to give the old guys a blow from time to time.

Guarentee they instill a few 4 lineman sets........

I think he has potential to take over after an injury, but if he does get enough playing time in this season, and he takes enough advantage of it, he could very well start as soon as next season.
