View Full Version : Goodbye Mewelde Moore???

The post-game announcer made an interesting statement.

With Logan now, Moore may be expendable.

I am not sure I agree with that, as he didn't have the hands I would want to see for catching passes (announcers said that was true in camp too).

Hmmm.

That would be a huge mistake.

As much as I like Logan, if it came down between him and Moore, I keep Moore.

Parker will miss time this season at some point. We will need Moore.

I think Davis should be more worried than Moore...

if logan can learn how to pick up a blitz, play 3rd down back, and be a productive first string running back for half the season, then sure, you can cut moore.

it's preseason for announcers too. some of them will be stocking shelves next week.

Logan is a "specialist".

That's it!

They find room for him this year by subtracting a player from a different position ... likely a defensive back, because we are loaded with game-ready d-backs.

F***! I hear ya, and I hope it's not Mundy. On the other hand, Tomlin was asked about Redman's chances and all he said was something like "He ran pretty well tonight." So he's not penciled in as of yet. Only time will tell. Gotta love it when you're defending champs and these are the types of problems you have :tt02:

It could actually be Ratliff though.

He was brought in as insurance and it proved in the end that we really don't need him.

What's his contract like?

yup, i like Ratliff but that is who i cut. I think he was brought in as insurance in case Townsend wasn't healthy or the young guys weren't ready

We can keep Ratliff if we cut Burnett or Madison. Burnett is a keeper (too much potential) imo. So it would be between Ratliff or Madison (I went with Madison because of special teams play)

Was listening to a Pitt station... the announcer suggested that Redmon may have just taken Davis place by that running he did tonight.

As far as RBs go, I can seriously see his point. My question however, is would then start at FB? I think the Tank showed tonight he is not ready (yet, give him a year). McHugh is out injured. Redmon didnt play there. So who would step in? It has to be someone on the roster, because Redmon is taking up Davis spot

(apologize for not using the apostrophe-- every time I do, Firefox jumps to a quick link search, and that is one thing I have never been able to find out how to turn off, though I havent really looked either).

When this comes out in the wash tomorrow, the RB situation will look like this ...

Parker
Mendenhall
Moore
Redman
Davis or Summers
Logan *

No, I think he was trying to say that he didn't see good enough receiving ability from Logan to justify replacing Moore with Logan on the roster as our 3rd down back.

Meh, just a typical announcer talking out of his ass, diarrhea of the mouth if you will, just filling air time. Every announcer can't be 100% up to date and knowledgeable with each team they cover. He just made a mistake not knowing how valuable Moore was to this team last season, and thus he just treated him as if he were a typical 3rd string RB.

No chance in hell Moore gets cut. It's just an announcer saying something without really thinking it through, which pretty much describes most of them nowadays.

I'm still sticking by my belief that Parker probably will not get a new contract next season.

The RB rotation will then be Mendenhall, Moore, Redman( or summers) and Logan. Next season is Moore's final in B&G and from then on Logan may be the 3rd down back.

I think you might be looking too far ahead, and then not thinking it through enough.

First, it seems you're counting on Mendenhall to pan out and be a success (he very well may be a dud, I hope he isn't, but we don't know yet)

Redman and Summers are the biggest wild cards here, but they're far from a lock just yet, and thus statistical chances would suggest us finding alternative talents to challenge/compliment/replace them.

Logan is already 28, so you're saying he'll be the starting 3rd down back @ age 30...

If Moore doesn't get too big of a head, he's still young enough and versatile enough to be valuable to the Steelers. His output is undeniable to those who actually know, but he isn't exactly anything flashy either (so other teams might not pick up on him), I think there's a good chance for the Steelers to look into keeping him for a few years longer.

You're right about Parker though, as much as I love him and his home run threat, his opportunity to really shine was wasted with a few years of shoddy O lines.

I think it depends on how bad McHugh's injury is. The Steelers are obviously content with McHugh being the lead blockeer in the backfield. If he is not going to miss more than the first game they may chance Johnson at full back for one game (I know that requires us to keep 4 TE, but one of them would be taking the FB's spot on the roster). Also, they could use Heath at fullback in short yardage situations for one game. I remember Heath filling in a couple of years ago at fullback in short yardage situations, when Kreider got hurt during a game. Besides, other than short yardage situations, Arians will be just happy to stick with two TE and a single back. Hell, if he could figure out how to do it he would be happy with 6 TE, 1 QB, 1 Center, 1 RB, 1Wr and 1 other o'linemen.

I agree any talk of cutting Big Snack should be a 2 week temp ban!!! ;) I'm still praying they figure out how to sign him next year so he can finish his career as a Steeler. This is one time I'd be happy if the Steelers slapped the tag on a player. He has earned the right to retire a Steeler, get it done Rooney's.

redman will not be going anywhere..

logic says hes not an Ohio st., Iowa or Michagan groomed runner....
so... he needs to clean up to that caliber.. so with one year in the NFL as a specialist and he proves he is for real... he may be knocking at Mendys door in 1 or 2 years. he has the will power to explode.

Exerpt from Bouchettes article this morning. It is Ed, so take it with a grain of salt.

They would like to go with four at one position and five at the other. There are three untouchable backs -- Willie Parker, Rashard Mendenhall and Mewelde Moore. Three others were bidding for one or two spots, veteran Carey Davis (who did not play last night) and rookies Redman and Frank Summers. Four wide receivers on the team are Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes, Limas Sweed and Mike Wallace. If they keep five, the spot likely would go to veteran Shaun McDonald.

If he stays it would be as a 5th or 6th receiver.

That's what i was thinking too. This is gonna be one tough cutdown day. I hope they keep 6 WR's just for Stefan Logan, really i think he can help us that much.

Imo if it's 4 at one position, 5 at the other....

RB's: Willie Parker, Rashard Mendenhall, Mewelde Moore, Carey Davis

WR's: Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes, Limas Sweed, Mike Wallace, Shaun McDonald

(I know this gets old, but i'm not a huge Carey Davis fan, but the coaches like him so i guess he stays, and for the sake of Stefan Logan, i hope the FO makes room for him)

I will be so glad when these decisions are made. As much as I cannot stand Carey Davis, if he is picked by the coaching staff to stay, I will root for him mightily. Although my wish is that Summers unseats him.
