I am not sure if i just never noticed it, but anyone else see this new part of his game? i mean i know over the years he has done it every once in awhile, but last night he used it as a weapon. I LOVED IT. It is the best way to seperate a defense and he ran it to perfection.

This isn't new. He did this a lot last year as well and even in the 2005 season.

He had time to do it last year? lol

The main reason he can sell it so convincingly is that his hand is literally almost as big as the ball...and it IS effective, because safety's love to break on the ball early...

The great part about BR really working the pump fake is that by mid season opposing safeties will be coached to not break on the pump fake. So they will be sitting in their zones longer ... giving any throw without the pump fake a much better chance.

That's the beauty of how good he is at it...there's really no real a DB can determine if he's throwing it or not until the ball actually stays in or leaves his hand...they HAVE to respect that it could be either.

What about the numerous legendary pump fakes Ben used on the game winning drive in SB43? He was definitely using them then!

If only he would've pump faked Andrea McNutty

Ben has one of the best pump fakes in the league. The Tites sure bit on it last night. :tt03::applaudit:

It sure looked like Chris Hope seemed to bite on the pump a few times.

He's always done it, but it seemed like he used it alot more last night. He even "fake passes" it a runner and then throws it.

yeah, he's used it a lot, but last night was the first time a commentator (Collinsworth) really hammered his use of it and the importance of it home

You'd think it'd be hard not to notice, seeing as the cameramen bite on it about half the time as well :chuckle:

its not new but its still as effective. i think collinsworth said it last night but i've been saying it since i first saw him do it..i have no idea how he pump fakes with such force and keeps the ball in his hand, he must have the steel grip of the terminator.

it's insanely convincing because the majority of the time it's not just a half pump, he goes through the full motion and then resets so fast. That's got to be a death grip on the ball when he does the full motion.

I just meant that he was doing it so much yesterday that everyone noticed it, even the announcers talked about it and showed on the replays how well it worked

It's a great tool...Many can't do it effectively
