Can Townsend or Ratliff play safety?
Steelers Q&A with Ed Bouchette

Q: Since Troy Polamalu is out any chance we see Deshea Townsend or Keiwan Ratliff playing strong safety?

Justin Zimmerman, Kempton, PA

BOUCHETTE: Yes, there is a chance. Ryan Mundy is the top backup at both safeties and the only other safety listed on the roster after Polamalu, Tyrone Carter and Ryan Clark. But both Townsend and Ratliff have practiced there and could fill in if needed.

pretty sure Ratliff made the team specifically for his experience and versatility

that being said, he may not be the best option, just a solid one at any position should he be needed

Always nice to have some options at the safety spot until Troy gets back. TC and Mundy will do a good job until Troy gets back.
