Steeler's Anderson, Dawson nominated for Hall of Fame
Saturday, September 19, 2009
By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Former Steelers kicker Gary Anderson, eligible for the first time, joins former teammate Dermontti Dawson, a finalist last year, on the list of 131 men nominated for election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, announced today.
A large contingent of former Steelers are among the group: Linebackers Kevin Greene and Hardy Nickerson, safeties Donnie Shell and Carnell Lake, coach Buddy Parker and player personnel head Art Rooney Jr., a part-owner of the team as well.
Also nominated are former Pitt players Russ Grimm, also a former Steelers coach who was a finalist last year, and defensive linemen Chris Doleman and Rickey Jacxkson. Darryl Talley of West Virginia joins them, as does former San Francisco 49ers owner Ed DeBartolo Jr., who also owned the Penguins and is from Boardman, Ohio.
The list of 131 will be reduced to 25 semifinalists and then 15 finalists, who will join the two seniors nominees, Dick LeBeau and Floyd Little, for the final vote to be taken on Feb. 6 for the 2010 Hall of Fame class.

Ernie Holmes should be in the hall some day.......Ask Art Shell who was the toughest guy he ever went up against and he will tell you Ernie Holmes....
Just be cause God made him crazy,. and he could not have a long career because Teams did not understand him, should not be a reason he does not get in........
I would take Ernie Holmes on my line in front of anybody........Rip Fats.......
I love crazy dudes.........

Wow...Russ Grimm could get there faster than Coach Lebeau
That would be a true travesty.
Dirt, Kenny Anderson, Rice, Carter, Too Tall Jones, Guy and Greene are no-brainers, imho.

My guess for this year's class is Tim Brown, Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, Gary Anderson, and Dick LeBeau.

Absolutely correct! The only thing keeping LC out is jealousy from other teams and their supporters. They don't want any more 70's Steelers in the hall.
It is a shame that these guys are not in the HOF such great players. It seems there are always bias against are guys and, I guess way too many haters in that HOF selection group.
Watching the show (The Road To Canton) on NFL Network they said that the inductees are overwhelmingly offensive players (something like 2/3 Offense to 1/3 defense). Also, and I didn't know this, that sacks were not even recorded until 1982. It may be REAL difficult for LC to get in---although we all know he should be there. Also, there are only 7 safeties in the Hall. There, apparently, is a push among those that vote to include more defensive players, particularly d-backs. Maybe Shell has a shot.
On a positive note, they were talking like Dick LeBeau is a lock.
