View Full Version : Are we really that good?

I mean, last season the D played super but O was average at best. We couldn't score in the redzone and we couldn't run the ball. Nothing has changed. Those 2 elements plagued us the whole season. The only thing that has changed is the D, so I am not surprised that we are struggling. We are not that good. We got on a run, played the right teams and were fortunate to win it all. We have not improved on the things that plagued us last season. i am not sure why people are reacting so surprised.

Another fine example of the ignorance that is plaguing this board.

wow. the 910th member telling the 516th member to jump off the bandwagon. odd considering the thousands of members this board has had.

we are as good as our record indicates.

as last year showed, 11-5 doesnt even get you into the playoffs. we better get gooder than 1-2.

We are still the best team in the NFL, even though we are not playing like it. The season is 16 games long. The nonsense better stop fast or we are a wild card at best. Baltimore still has a chance to cave at the end of the season like they usually do.

Nope, we're garbage.

Forget that there's still 14 weeks left to play, we should just pack it in and tank the season.

Since our Wideouts are garbage, we should be able to draft Dez Bryant. Or maybe since our defense is so bad, we should draft Eric Berry or Taylor Mays.

Matter of fact, I'm going right now to make a "2010 Steelers Draft" thread...

what makes us the best team in the league exactly? we were terrible at running the ball last season. we couldn't score in the redzone last season. we can't have the same trend this season if we want to repeat. the point of my thread is why are people so shock? we had a small room for error last season. We need to improve. are we just overlooking things b/c we were fortunate to win the super bowl?

Yes. I do think we are that good. We just aren't playing 60 minutes of football right now. That is what is hurting us.

Another winner! But we haven't done anything to prove to anybody we can be the team that can win it all despite our shortcomings. We haven't beat anybody but ourselves lately, and that has got to change, PDAMNQ.

Tomlin has said, time and time again, "Steelers football is 60 minutes long." We didn't play that long yesterday.

There is still plenty of time to turn this thing around, but it must happen this week.

The difference between 2-2 and 1-3 is absolutely huge. I'm just glad this game is in Pittsburgh rather than in San Diego this week.

We can still be 5-2 at our bye and I would have taken that before the season. We can beat Minnesota.

guys...the fact of the matter is, that we havent played "60 minutes". the past 2 weeks we've played good enough to win...but. we diid NOT play the full 60. We missed opportunities... (Jeff reed last week, and Limas Sweed this week) and we cant seem to hold a lead. If we play a full 60 minutes...we will b fine....We need to win this game this week. and then troy will be back, wich will b a huge boost to the entire team. Relax. We will be fine...

I think it's a very good question. We are a Big Ben away from a 7 and 9 record.

No one is claiming we are the best team in the league. We are one play away from being 2-1.

Compared to last year, we ARE improved. The defense is the same (minus arguably the BEST defensive player in the NFL) , our O-Line is playing better, our ST's is much improved....so why hit the panic button??

Play calling and some in-game decisions have been suspect at times but nothing that cant be corrected.

its week 3. relax. were just making some early season mistakes. and that D is really missing troy. he gives us more than just his talent, his presence is a huge lift. when he is back, the D will be fine. offense is looking better, this week anyway. just gotta get focused. we will be just fine.

I'm learning a lot about myself as a Steelers fan these days:

I thought Sweed was going to finally pan out ... maybe still ... but how many more chances do you give the guy?

I thought Sonny Harris was going to not only be a Steeler, but be a good one! Now he's a Panther  ... and our D-line is playing to its age.

I thought Isaac Redman deserved a roster spot ... he earned it! ... but what do I know?

I thought cutting Carey Davis was a godsend ... now we don't have a FB. :sofunny:

I thought Stefan Logan was going to light up the punt return game and be worth a roster spot as a "specialist" ... His kick returns are fine ... his punt returns are 2008 reincarnated.

I thought ... and everyone told me ... that Mendenhall was going to be some kind of force in our running game this time around ...

I thought Ziggy Hood would see some serious playing time and help our pass rush on obvious passing downs. :noidea:

11-5 is not a stretch. Neither is 3-3 at the break. But if we go 3-3 by the break, 11-5 is a serious stretch.

Some of this stuff has been stewing now for a long long time ... the sacks given up, the Arians venting, the impotent running attack ... now you've got to throw in the 4th quarter defensive issues (going all the way back to the Super Bowl), the dropped passes (believe me when I say that was going on at camp too), and Ben's lack of protecting the football (4 picks already).

None of those things above are reflective of a Head Coach who is getting it done on the coaching level. Cowher would be bashing some heads by now and spitting in the face of his players!

Can't wait to rewind Tomlin's presser tomorrow and get a feel for his current state of matters.

I also have been giving sweed the benefit of the doubt. but i think last years drop has mentally hurt him in the long run, kinda like what happened to braylon edwards....although he has had good years before

im starting to worry a bit now....

11-5 will definately get you in this year. 10-6 will almost always get you in. I predicted 11-5, and I think that will be close. Look the Bengals have played well this year and they still needed a last minute drive to win a division game at home.

We've lost 2 games that could have easily been won and we won 1 that could have easliy been lost. We have time to get it together. But let's not wait. Let's beat SD this week and get back on track.
If we beat SD this week, it would be tough to find 5 more games that we would lose this season.

The mans gotta be allowed to have more than 4 carries a month for that to happen. Not arguing with using Parker, he's getting the job done(dont think Mendy could do much but tie his performance at this point). And if I recall right... Parker hasn't been known for his ability to catch the ball. And yet he pulled a Moore and is catching and running as of last week. :noidea:

So Im not gonna make a decision one way or the other on Mendenhall because he's been warming the bench!

One pick was a hail mary. One, he had his arm hit. One was a clear miscommunication on the part of the receiver.

I wouldn't say any of those picks are Ben's fault.

And are you really saying that Tomlin is a bad coach? A SB winning coach is a bad coach???? For crying out loud, I thought we finally put that to rest last season!

i guess its only natural that some fans are gonna have an engorged hard on for the likes of sean payton or the harbaugh/cameron combo.

they are 3-0 after all.

This is what I was telling some of my friends. The Bengals are going to finish 15-1, the Steelers won't win another game, and the Broncos will finish with the first undefeated season since the Dolphins.

We have to put things in perspective and realize that it's only three games into the season. There are ABSOLUTELY some issues that need to be addressed. There's no denying that whatsoever. However, I have confidence in the great coaching staff that we have, that they will be addressed. It's up to the players to execute at the end of the day.

Don't get too stressed out yet guys. The season has really just begun.

The Bengals already won their Super Bowl this year. They won't be a factor the remainder of the year.

Aint that the truth. And with Cleveland playing for the #1 pick in the draft, it just leaves us.
Don't think it's much of a stretch to say that regardless of who wins our division, the other team will claim a wild card slot.

:banging: You know for me the loss to the bungles was an acculmunation of disappointments that began all the way back at the Tennessee game. All I heard all preseason was how much BETTER the Defense was than last year, how impressive Mendenhall was, how Fast Willie re-discovered himself :blah: !!! I was really looking forward to coming out and making a statement with the titans, I'm talking like a 34 - 7 beatdown!!! But no, but I'll take the W. So I figured, ok the Bears...should be a defensive game but we should win. The final straw though was losing to the Bungles!?!? I mean WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :banging::banging::banging::banging:
AND to do it in that fashion...I mean we blew an 11 point lead. That was unheard of during the Cowher era!! Now I really do believe that Tomlin is a better coach than Cowher, but I think he better break a foot of in somebodies arse real soon before things really get out of hand!! Well enough of my :twocents:

I agree with you. If you guys stay away from injuries, no way are the Ravens collapsing.

I will be surprised if Todd Heap is not on the IR by the time we play you though.

just wait til big Troy is back, you will see how good we are.

BTW i might be a fool but i still think we should give more chances to Limas.

Nate Washington was as bad as Limas when he first got here.He dropped a couple of easy TD too.

we need to stick with him in the end the guy has all the talents to overcome those bad moments

I'm not to sure we can afford to give Sweed much more of a chance with the way Wallace played this last game.
