NFL from the sidelines

After hobnobbing around the NFL in the press boxes and sidelines, sports reporter Dale Lolley will let you know the insider scoop

Parker will play

Though he couldn't name a specific game, Willie Parker today said this isn't the first time he's had turf toe and he doesn't expect it to keep him from playing Sunday against San Diego.

That could be good news against a San Diego run defense that's been awful thus far and will be playing without nose tackle Jamal Williams.

Then again, the Steelers don't have the running game of Oakland, Baltimore or Miami, San Diego's first three opponents.

Limas Sweed didn't have anything to say to reporters, today, waiving off interview requests.

Matt Spaeth was a surprising non-scratch at practice. I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

Interesting to note that the Chargers run the ball worse than the Steelers. San Diego's averaging 2.8 yards per carry and has a long run of 13 yards.

I wish he would sit this game. I would to get a good look at Mendenhall.

He might try and play - but it's mere speculation till the official injury report comes out.

I read a new nickname the other day for Parker....Glass Willie Parker.

I thought that was funny.

I hope he runs for 200, but it won't silence his critics...

Parker sits out Steelers practice again

Friday, October 02, 2009
By Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Running back Willie Parker is not practicing again today because of his turf toe injury and it doesn't appear as though he will play Sunday night against the San Diego Chargers.

Parker has not worked with the team since injuring his toe five days ago against the Cincinnati Bengals. When a player doesn't practice all week, he rarely, if ever, plays in the game.

The Steelers have not made any official determination about Parker

I better play Mendenhall on my fantasy team then.

Running back Willie Parker did not practice again today because of a bad toe, and he will likely miss the Steelers' game Sunday against the visiting San Diego Chargers.

Assuming Parker doesn't play, Rashard Mendenhall or Mewelde Moore will start in his place.

Mendenhall is normally the Steelers' No. 2 running back but he didn't play on offense last week against the Bengals because coach Mike Tomlin was not pleased with the way he had practiced leading up to the game.

Moore started four games for the Steelers last season and rushed for 260 yards and five touchdowns in those contests.

Parker is the Steelers' leading rusher with 159 yards on 52 carries.

Willie's got a big toe.

Let's see what Mendenhall and Moore can do tomorrow!

SD rush defense is crappy. If FWP plays, it will help get his confidence back. If Mendy plays, he will shred them.

KFFL - Steelers | Mendenhall to start in Week 4

Updating previous reports, Ed Bouchette, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports Pittsburgh Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall will receive the start in Week 4 with Willie Parker (toe) out.

Come on Mendy The bolts are without there NT and Merriman!

Carolina Steelers

This is a great spot for Mendenhall to get on track 75 yds and a TD would be nice.

I don't care if he gets 0 yards as long as we win.

I am not a Willie hater but it doesn't bother me much if he is out. You pretty much figure he will miss 4 to 5 games a year for the rest of his career. In the NFL these days you need 2 good running backs to be successful. We do need Troy back. At the very least we would me 2-1 with a healthy Troy, probably 3-0. I would rather see Willie healthy at the end of season instead of playing injured week in and week out. I am very excited to see what Rashard can do.

Come on now... run willie... run....

10-04-2009, 11:54 AM
Man has Willie become injury-prone the last season-plus. Ever since he broke his leg in '07, it's been one injury after another. If this keeps up, the Steelers shouldn't even entertain the thought of re-signing him to a big-money extension.

10-04-2009, 07:00 PM
We''ll see, but this report says he won't.
