Calling out Jammer and Cromartie?

Why?

Holmes not impressed by Chargers CBs

By Kevin Acee
September 30, 2009, 2:19 p.m.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and his Super Bowl MVP receiver, Santonio Holmes, contrasting opinions on Chargers cornerbacks Quentin Jammer and Antonio Cromartie today.

"That corner tandem of Jammer and Cromartie is spectacular," Tomlin said. "They play on the line of scrimmage a bunch, and we have to be ready for a battle from our wide receivers' standpoint."

Holmes, on the other hand, was matter-of-fact in his assessment. "Honestly, two normal corners," Holmes said flatly. "At one point, they were doing what they were supposed to do -- intercept balls and keep opponents from catching the ball."

Holmes said he views all corners that way. "They've got to see me on the field Sunday, too," he said

Jammer and Cromartie, by the way, have allowed 13 receptions this season while being targeted 25 times. By way of comparison, Steelers starting corners Ike Taylor and William Gay have been burned 27 times on 42 passes.

Holmes is funny. They are probably equally unimpressed with his hands lately and could make the case that they are doing the minimum required, but Holmes is not.

He would be better off saying, "No Comment" and let his play do the talking at this point.

He needs to keep his mouth shut. I hate when players say stupid things about the other team.

He didn't say they sucked, just normal corners. No smack talk there.

Doesn't matter with the media - that's how Anthony Smith's comment about the Steelers being able to beat the Pats* IF THEY PLAYED UP TO THEIR POTENTIAL got turned into a "guarantee of a win." If you don't offer a superlative when discussing an opponent with the media, then you should simply say "no comment," otherwise the media will turn it into smack. It's what they do.

:iagree: That's why they need to just keep quiet.

Holmes is an idiot. He should just keep his mouth shut and let his play do the talking as said earlier. Time to dump him and make Sweed the number two. :flap::flap::flap::flap:

I don't think he should be talking smack either. With those two covering Holmes and Ward who will get Wallace he could have another good game this week. He showed last week why he should be in the no.3 spot.

Dont mind the talking, it's part of the game. What I dont like is him droping the ball after EVERY first down he gets.

How impressive do they need to be if you don't catch the damn ball?

And please stop with the two-fist chest beating for every routine catch.

Cromartie has said stupid things like that too even though it wasn't stupid what Holmes said, the media always twist words around but I guess we'll see how they perform Sunday night. Good luck

Santonio really needs to be smarter than that. Besides I am sure Cromartie and Jammer could really talk back to Holmes about his play the past 2 weeks. Nobody on the Steelers should be talking right now. Play good football and then worry about talking later!

ummmmm....no. I didn't see the offense giving up 10+ point leads in the last two games.

i don't see any problem with his comments because of this line in the same artricle

Holmes said he views all corners that way

Don't see any problem with what he said.... he's a Steeler... and they are Chargers.... case closed.....

I think this is just a case of Santonio talking himself up heading into the game. He had a pretty bad week last week and I think he's just doing what he thinks he needs to do to get his head in the game. I hope it works.

Couldn't agree more.If he starts dropping passes tonight they could easily turn into INTs with these guys and he'll end up looking like Anthony Smith against NE. All I can say is he better back it up!

Why tone? My question to Holmes what have you done this year other than drop a game winning TD? Also running the wrong rout. Come on man don't say stupid things like that.
