Blitz, this is so ironic, I was just hinking today about this and was going to start a thread, but wasn`t sure if it has been done.
Terry Bradshaw is one Jack Lambert is another, I could go on and on but you said two.
Its really hard not to like your two picks of present players, who wouldn`t want them on their team? But I`m going to go with Porter, and Troy.

I really love Porter as well. That man is the soul motivator of that team, he fires everybody up, and is never at a loss for words. He's been the guy that we lacked in that dept, since Lloyd left. Yes, there have been others that are vocal, of course...but none the likes of Porter or Lloyd.

past - Lake and Stallworth

present - well, you got to like ward, i also like reed. i know he is a kicker, but he has done a great job for us and we don't have an easy place to kick. Just ask Kris Brown.....lol

for me it's easy:

in the past, it's the man who never smiles (#58)
and in the present, the one who's always smiling (#86)

Carnell Lake, man was he one of the best around in his day.. the guy was a pro bowler at safety, then turned Cb and still made the pro bowl. I still have my Lake #37 home jersey.

I`m not really forgetting, it`s just we can`t place evryone on our list. I`d love to put Glenn "The Assassin " Edwards but we can`t go on and on.

Past: 2 stories...

Lambert - as a rookie was once ridiculed to made sing his school alma mater in front of the team. He slammed down his stuff, walked away and said, " I aint singing anything." Classic. He just played football, and played it very hard.

Bryan Hinkle - This one is just something you may never see nowadays. Mid way during his career as a Steeler, he was going to become a free agent or such but we couldn't afford him. He went to the staff and said cut me. Don't worry I'll be back. After we cut him and found enough money we resigned him. I would guess he turned down at least five teams to take less money to play for the Steelers.

Now:

Ben and Ward. Someone who manages to do everything right on and off the field as a rookie and a man who isn't afraid to cry when his friends mean just a little more than the game.

My favorite player must come from the unselfish mold, basically the guy that gives it up for the team. Mike Webster comes to mind. I just love total team players, not the ones who talk about being team players, but the ones who's action speak louder than words. Hiens Ward is right up thier in that catagory, tell me why more recievers dont lay punishing blocks down field like he does?

That being said, my favorite Player is Rocky Bleier. This guy comes back from Vietnam with a bullet in him (giving it up for our country!) and through shear guts gets the job done!! He did everything he was asked without complaint or regard to personal glory, he did it all for the team!!

VolatileMan

btw. I have his book Fighting Back autographed by the man himself!!

There all great picks so far, we are lucky to have so many great players to choose from.

But you can tell our ages by our all tome picks. The younger guys weren`t even born during the superbowl years.

I`m just waiting for someone to say thier player is Ernie Stauntner ,

Hey everybody, I'm new to the site. I was just glad to find it so I can talk Steeler football with all you great fans! My favorite player right now has to be one of these 4 guys: Polomaluza (hence my username), Roethlisberger, Hines and Bettis. As far as the all time fav's go, you gotta love Lambert and Franco.

My favorite all time player is Jack Lambert. If you are old enough to have ever seen him play this takes no explanation.
Present favorite is Hines Ward (why do you think they call it Heins Field ?)

John Henry Johnson was one heck of a runningback.

A punishing runner for the 49ers, Lions, Steelers, and Oilers during his 13-year career, Johnson finished with 6,803 yards rushing and 48 touchdowns and was inducted into the HOF in 1987.

Just thought he needed a bigger mention. Two trivia facts:

1) JHJ was the 1st Steeler to rush for 200 yards in a game.
2) JHJ lived in Pittsburgh, PA and Pittsburg, CA

Its the offseason, I thought I do a little color commentary on SF.

You know the more I see interviews with Ben and his style on the field, its hard not to like him. He has a ****iness on the field that a QB should have, although usually I`m a defensive guy. Troy and Joey rock

Troy. I love to watch him running around like a wild man - hair flowing in the breeze. You know that he knows exactly where he wants to be and what his objective is but his opponents (and often the fans) have no idea! I love it!

lol I'm such a nerd, the other day I was just thinking about how much I love all the guys on the team, and that says something about the Steelers organization. usually there's a guy or two that you're kinda "eh" about, but I love them all.
Hines is definitely my top, has been for years. Heath is probably my second favorite then my third favorite (I have a thing for making lists, don't mind me :blurp:) is basically the rest of the team...Foote, Farrior, Porter, Troy, Faneca, etc etc

Its hard to pick a favorite. I love all the Steelers. But growing up my favorites were Rod Woodson and Greg Lloyd. But I was also a big Darren Perry fan. I never thought he got the full credit he deserved. Of course when we traded for the Bus he was high on my list.

But on the current team. My three favorites on offense are Hines Ward, Ben Roethlisberger and Alan Faneca. My three of defense are Troy Polamalu, Joey Porter and Casey Hampton.

OK..first of all S Darren Perry got beat on so many plays I was glad when he left. He is a decent coach with what he has done with our safetys but Chris Hope was ok... he is no AllStar but he was better than Perry.
My favorites are present..Troy Polomalu and Big Ben..with Heath Miller close behind
and past favorites... RB Franco Harris and Carnell Lake/Rod Woodson
