PITTSBURGH -- Hundreds of Steelers fans waited in line Tuesday night at Macy's at The Mall at Robinson to get an autograph from their favorite player, running back Rashard Mendenhall.

"I love watching him. I don't like to miss a game," said fan Hannah Enos.

"I got here at 8 o'clock this morning so I could get stuff and get the autograph tonight," said Sue Grimes of Oakdale.

After a live interview with ESPN Radio, Rashard started signing while wearing his eye-catching Super Bowl ring.

Rashard quickly put the ring back in its box, though, as it seemed to get in the way of his autographing.

Rashard told me he loves the fans.

"Everywhere you go there's Steelers fans. And a lot of times we're playing games on the road but we might have more fans in the stadium than we do. So Steelers nation is big and it travels," he said.

Rashard traveled from his home state of Illinois to make Pittsburgh his new home after being selected as the Steelers first-round draft pick in 2008.

"I think the layout of the city is beautiful with all of the water and the bridges and everything. It's a little smaller than what I'm used to, being from Chicago, but I think it's pretty cool," he said.

So what does Rashard do when he's not playing football?

"I like to read, I like to write. Dancing is big. I like to dance a lot. Music is a big thing, too. So just a lot of different things. A little more relaxing," he said.

Rashard told me one of his favorite artists right now is Sondre Lerche.

In his second season with the Steelers, Rashard has earned a spot as a starter.

"It means a lot of have that privilege; especially after missing last year due to an injury. To come back and be able to hit the scene like I did is a blessing," he said.

So what about the Steelers ugly loss to the Bengals? Rashard said it won't hold the team down.

"You know with our team, we don't blink. No matter what the circumstance is. So we're gonna take that and move forward. We're only a little bit past half way through the season so we just look to be rollin', til the end of it," he said.
