PITTSBURGH (AP)—The Pittsburgh Steelers (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/pit/;_ylt=Alox0um1F5Oll7DKRd74yPgdsLYF) have met with experienced quarterbacks Patrick Ramsey (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5918/;_ylt=AqRec2FIsu4CAK8aHA4XcGUdsLYF)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5918/news;_ylt=ApTgN20sc5Vc4iGr7b6avKEdsLYF) and Todd Bouman (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/4231/;_ylt=AgbWPZLkUUYjtA2jpp2SKpcdsLYF)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/4231/news;_ylt=AvnajGcAhmtoB93U_3f_CtkdsLYF), a sign that injured backup Charlie Batch (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/4319/;_ylt=AtzdeCu9wh1V.d2N9MPoaLgdsLYF)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/4319/news;_ylt=AsZtQ5BQV1.vnbVNZrX0XEkdsLYF) might be out longer than the team first expected.
Batch broke his left wrist in Kansas City on Sunday, leaving second-year quarterback Dennis Dixon (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/8933/;_ylt=Avn7bjIz0L38Z9TorxmnGrQdsLYF)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/8933/news;_ylt=AkzRsjNMmd5OI7qRAGCBskMdsLYF) as the only backup to starter Ben Roethlisberger (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/6770/;_ylt=AqSmQmRKQhqd4sRtnllg7zIdsLYF)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/6770/news;_ylt=Aucet_15X2yS2cMvIUdyqzcdsLYF) on the 53-man roster. Former Pitt quarterback Tyler Palko (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/8639/;_ylt=Asq8D8MRwqhkfMqLgdVvoSAdsLYF)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/8639/news;_ylt=AugufHXs07z1ZwdlmftssxYdsLYF) is on the practice squad.

Batch had surgery on Wednesday and was expected to be out two to four weeks.
Ramsey was cut by Tennessee last month. Bouman, a former Vikings backup, played briefly for Baltimore last season.

NFL from the sidelines

After hobnobbing around the NFL in the press boxes and sidelines, sports reporter Dale Lolley will let you know the insider scoop.

Steelers working out a pair of vets

The Steelers are reportedly working out a pair of veteran quarterbacks today in Todd Bouman and Patrick Ramsey.

It's likely, however, that it's a precautionary thing just in case something happens in Sunday's game against Baltimore to either Ben Roethlisberger or backup Dennis Dixon.

Dixon will be the team's only backup QB to Roethlisberger against the Ravens and possibly beyond.

Veteran backup Charlie Batch suffered a fracture in his left wrist last Sunday against Kansas City and had surgery on the wrist Wednesday.

I think Garcia and Frerotte would be the 2 best choices.. both have proven that they can do well with an established team.....

Frerotte is a local boy from Ford City in Armstrong County.....

Losman is playing for the UFL or whatever its called right now, unless they can pull him from there. Not that id want him on the team.

I would much rather have Jeff Garcia. Hopefully all goes well and Ben and DD will be healthy the rest of this season.

There isn't really anyone on that list that thrills me. I think Garcia's better than the others on that list. Just my opinion, though.

IMO they were only looking at Ramsey and Bouman in case Charlie Batch isn't able to come back in 2-4 weeks. Hopefully they don't get added to the FO's speed dial!
