That sounds like good news for you guys. I hear that Ed Reed is on his way to Miami to see a specialist about his hip. I have a feeling he will not be playing this Sunday.

Having a respectful forum contributor from our big rival makes for good debate and fun....ignore the newbies who have no appreciation. Every great franchise in sports is help defined by their biggest rivals. Lakers & Celtics, Yankees & Redsox, Ali & Frazier, the list goes on and on. How much respect would either of our teams ever get if our division was made up of the browns, bengals and lions?

Polamalu's playing status hinging on MRI

By John Harris
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Wednesday, December 23, 2009
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/sports/steelers/s_659017.html#

Steelers safety Troy Polamalu could return to the lineup against the Baltimore Ravens if the results from Tuesday's MRI on his knee are positive, coach Mike Tomlin said.

Tomlin, who has been optimistic about Polamalu's possible return at various times this season, is taking a wait-and-see approach.

Polamalu has missed the past five games and has appeared in only five contests this season.

"The result of his MRI is going to dictate what direction we take, like it has in recent weeks," Tomlin said.

Some starters who suffered injuries against Green Bay could miss practice time early in the week. Tomlin said wide receivers Hines Ward (hamstring) and Mike Wallace (knee), running back Rashard Mendenhall (hip) and defensive end Brett Keisel (stinger) could all be limited early. Ward and other veterans are normally held out of the week's first practice as Tomlin attempts to give them additional time to recover from the previous game.

Tomlin explained his strategy for attempting a surprise onside kick against Green Bay despite leading 30-28 late in the fourth quarter.

"That thought process of mine was geared toward them maybe kicking a field goal and being up one and us having to kick a field goal to win," Tomlin said. "Not necessarily with those guys scoring a touchdown."

John Harris can be reached at jharris@tribweb.com or 412-481-5432.

Klick,
I wouldn't worry about that too much. The front office has been very adamant about following medical advice. If the docs say Troy needs more time, he'll get it.

I agree with this. However, I trust the FO's judgment in this matter, Troy will not play if it is to great a risk.

I know this may sound like a pile of BS from a Ravens fan, but if Troy is healthy, I hope he plays, but if he's not, I hope he doesn't risk the rest of his sterling career by coming back prematurely.

If the Ravens win, it would be better if both Ben and Troy were out there to remove any of that doubt, but the guy is a gamer and I'd hate to see him really screw that knee up.

I feel the same way about Reed. In a perfect world all of our best players would be healthy and we would get a real dog fight.

I haven't heard any Reed updates today. Evidently he flew to Miami yesterday afternoon to see a specialist about his hip. Whether that means that, as of right now he's not suiting up, I haven't a clue.

Steelers safety Polamalu unlikely to play against Ravens
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/sports/steelers/s_659153.html#
By Scott Brown
PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Wednesday, December 23, 2009

Troy Polamalu, who has missed the last five games with a strained posterior collateral ligament in his left knee, looks like a long shot at best to play Sunday against the visiting Ravens.

The news is more encouraging for the Steelers' beat-up wide receiving corps as Hines Ward and Mike Wallace both said they will play in the 1 p.m. game.

Polamalu recently had an MRI taken on the knee that he has injured twice this season and said the results were "encouraging." He didn't sound optimistic about returning to the field for the must-win game for the Steelers.

Polamalu is not practicing today and he said he doesn't anticipate practicing this week. When asked if he needs to practice on the knee before playing a game, the five-time Pro Bowler said, "I would think so."

Polamalu said last week that he hoped to return for the Steelers' regular-season finale on Jan. 3 in Miami.

Ward re-aggravated a hamstring injury in the Steelers' 37-36 win against the Packers last Sunday. Before practice today he said, "I'll be fine. I'm not missing this (game) for the world."

Wallace said he too will play against the Ravens despite sustaining a laceration on his right knee last Sunday.

Wallace caught a pair of touchdown passes against the Packers, including a 19-yarder on the final play of the game.

Scott Brown can be reached at sbrown@tribweb.com or 412-481-5432.

Polamalu iffy

Troy Polamalu said today that the latest MRI he had on his injured knee was very positive. But the All-Pro strong safety would not commit one way or another as to whether he'll play this weekend when the Steelers host Baltimore in a must-win game.

Polamalu did say that he won't practice today. He did not, however, rule out practicing at some point this week.

Ideally, Polamalu would like to practice for an entire week before taking the field again, but as we know, the Steelers certainly face less than ideal circumstances at this point.

Ben Roethlisberger was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his 500-yard performance against Green Bay.

Though he aggravated his hamstring injury against Green Bay and could barely walk Sunday, wide receiver Hines Ward said there's no way he's missing the game against the Ravens.

I got a txt message earlier stating that he probably won't play this weekend.

Personally, as I have said before, I prefer he not, nor next weekend. Give that knee two more weeks to heal. Then, IF we make it into the playoffs, let him come back even stronger and more dominant.

A Steelers 35-7 blowout would not have hurt as much as that 4th quarter. Not one, not two, but three TD's that didn't put six on the scoreboard.

If they lose to Oakland next week, serves 'em right.
