PITTSBURGH-With their backs against the wall and desperately needing a win keep their playoff hopes alive, the Pittsburgh Steelers escaped with a 23-20 win, their second victory in consecutives weeks after losing five straight, over the Baltimore Ravens at Heinz Field Sunday, improving their record to 8-7.

The game was a tale of two halves as the Steelers were in control with a 20-10 lead at the end of the first half, only to see their 10 point lead evaporate to start the third quarter. Despite out playing the Steelers in the second half, penalties, turnovers, and miscues came back to haunt the Ravens in the second half when it counted the most.

After Pittsburgh’s first drive lasted eight plays but were forced to punt, the Ravens’ took over at their 13 yard line. On third and nine, Ravens’ quarterback Joe Flacco dropped back to pass but was hurried by linebacker Lamar Woodley, resulting in a tipped pass that was intercepted by fellow linebacker James Farrior. The Steelers got the ball back at the Baltimore eight yard line, however, they were unable to convert the excellent field position and were forced to settle for a 26 yard field goal by Jeff Reed to take the lead 3-0.

Baltimore came back on the following drive moving the ball 64 yards to the Steelers’ nine yard line, only to tie the game at 3-3.

Pittsburgh would re-take the lead, 6-3, off another Reed field goal on the following drive.

Several possessions later, Rashard Mendenhall scored a four yard touchdown early in the second quarter to extend Pittsburgh’s lead to 13-3...
