Willie , you have been a gentleman on and off the field . Looks like you won't be back next year . If you don't , just wanted to say Thank You . I will never forget the 75 yard run in Super Bowl 40 . Good Luck in the future !! :toast:

FWP gets kudos from me as well. I don't think we ever really adjusted our blocking schemes to suit his running style and really maximize what he could do, but I think he's become a tougher runner over the years and gave us everything he had.

Willie, it has been a pleasure to watch you represent the Black and Gold on and off the field. You have been absolute class act and have shown the characteristics that I have come to know and love out of a Steelers Running Back. If this was your last game in Black and Gold, I want to thank you for the memories that you have given to me and for being part of the team that made my Childhood Dream of watching the Steelers win a Super Bowl come true in Super Bowl XL. I still have very fond memories of February 5, 2006 and your second Super Bowl Championship in Super Bowl XLIII on February 1, 2009.

I hope you are considered worthy of coming back by the Steelers, but if not, best of luck in whatever you do.

I would love to see Willie back as a Steeler. He has given us so many great memories and I loved seeing him out there today. I wish you the best of luck next season Willie and hopefully you'll still be a member of the black and gold.

lol i was just about to post this. 12 carries, 91 yards on what is most likely his last day as a steeler. Really wish he would've gotten that TD on the last drive. Thank you Willie, if u arent here after this season, i'll never forget your contributions.

This comes a lot down to how much Willie wants to be a Steeler.

I completely agree. FWP was a tremendous RB and an invaluable asset to this team. BUT, I agree that our refusal to alter our running/blocking schemes hindered his ability to really shine. Our power running, up the gut mentality just wasn't suited for his size/stature. We needed to find ways to get Willie into space, and we failed to do that for the most part. But there's no doubt that he's a class-act and always gave 100% doing what he was asked to do. I'd love to see him back in a Steelers jersey next season, but if it doesn't work out that way, best of luck to ya Willie. And of course, thanks for the memories! :tt02:

Willie, best of luck if you're not in the black and gold next season. Wherever you end up, here's to an injury free, successful (unless you're playing us!) remainder of your career. Thanks for your contributions to the rings and your highlight reel runs.....

Yeah, the writing was on the wall when they drafted Mendenhall 2 years ago. Good times Willie

I am reviving this dead thread... After see the off-season unfold a few weeks how does it look for our beloved willie? New team? Back seat to Mendenhall? or possibly a shared role for the starting job

that's what I'm saying, with the names already out there at the RB position and the potential for others like Chester Taylor and even Fred Taylor again from NE, if he gets released, I'm not sure Willie will draw the "come be our number 1 guy" kind of attention he's hoping for.

Jamal Lewis and Lamont Jordan are also RBs that have been cut already this year by their teams.

Thats 4 guys people may jump at before they go after Parker.

You're right about not adjusting to his style but to be fair we didn't adjust to anyone's running style until Rashard took over and the line started to play better. I thought Willie did some of his toughest running the last half of the season. Sure would like to have him back for one more season especially if he could stay healthy.
