MIAMI-Despite allowing 14 points in the fourth quarter, the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Miami Dolphins 30-24 to improve their record to 9-7, finish the season on a three game winning streak after losing five in a row, and gave themselves a chance to make the post season.

Pittsburgh started the scoring on their very first possession, going 80 yards on 12 plays, capped off by a five yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to receiver Santonio Holmes to give Pittsburgh the lead, 7-0. Roethlisberger connected with tight end Heath Miller for 37 yards earlier on the drive to put the Steelers in Miami territory.

Miami, with second year quarterback Chad Henne at the helm, marched 66 yards to tie the game off of Henne’s touchdown pass to rookie running back Lex Hilliard, the first receiving touchdown of his career.

On the ensuing drive, Pittsburgh started at their own 33 yard line. After being stopped just shy of the first down marker on third down, head coach Mike Tomlin and Steelers, with their playoff hopes in the balance, were faced with a decision on fourth and one on their 42 yard line. The Steelers decided to take a chance, as Roethlisberger ran for two yards on the quarterback sneak, picking up the first down and extending their drive. It would prove to be the right decision as the Steelers re-took the lead off of a 54 yard bomb from Roethlisberger to rookie receiver Mike Wallace for the touchdown just two plays later.

Pittsburgh was up 14-7 to finish the first quarter as both defenses were seemingly non-existent on the field.
