WASHINGTON Redkins sacked coach Jim Zorn today after the team completed its worst NFL season in 15 years.

Zorn was told of his dismissal shortly after the season-ending 23-20 loss at San Diego.

No one in the organisation is satisfied with our record over the last two years and I'm sure Jim would concur with that statement,'' team owner Dan Snyder said in a statement.

Zorn had a 12-20 record over two seasons but lost 18 of his last 24 games after a 6-2 start in 2008.

The Redskins struggled early despite a weak schedule this season and finished 4-12, their worst record since 1994.

Former Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan is considered the favorite to replace Zorn.

Zorn's replacement will be Washington's seventh coach since Snyder bought the team in 1999.

Zorn's dismissal had been expected for months. He was stripped him of his play-calling duties in late October, and Snyder interviewed assistant coach Jerry Gray for the job weeks ago.

Nobody's really surprised by this I suppose. It'd be interesting what Shanny would do with this team and Snyder if he takes the job.

He did nothing without Elway and he will fail in DC too. They basically need an entire offense. They need an entire OL if Samuels is done for his career. Portis may retire or be cut. The Defense isn't getting any younger.
