The ax has fallen on one in Pittsburgh.

A league source tells the National Football Post that Steelers offensive line coach Larry Zierlein has been fired.

Zierlein coached the offensive line for the last three seasons following the departure of Russ Grimm to the Arizona Cardinals, and the Steelers have had a host of issues blocking in the running and passing games. Now, coach Mike Tomlin will set out to find a solution.

Florio thought it before you were even a twinkle in your daddy's eye.

And that's with me not without knowing how old you are.

This one I can believe as much as the Ligashesky rumor when it comes out. Despite all those that were pimping Starks and Kemo for pro bowl at week 8, the line still looked confused on several fronts. I dare say that Willie Colon has a worse year than 2008.

Thanks for the memories coach Z. Feel free to send along any good porn if you see it on the computer.

Nice find Vrabinec. Gonna be curious to see who they eventually get as a replacement. I dont think Harold Goodwin has a shot.

When I think of Zierlein I cant help but think of the picture of Faneca staring him down in a mini camp back in 07. I think we are seeing a return to power Steelers football.

Wow.

So, the Oline coach is gone.

Do we bring in BOTH a new offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, or do we have Arians work with an incoming offensive line coach and hope we get better results?

This is proving to be a very interesting off season.

Even though we've retained Arians, maybe a smart new O-line coach will bring about at least a reasonable shift to running the ball more often.

One thing that I am glad to see is that Tomlin and the FO aren't wasting any time in getting things done this off season.

....

Thank God!

Now we can wait for some more late round gems rather than wasting an early pick on O-line!

With a good coach I am SURE our 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th round O-line picks will start producing....Yippee!!!!! :jammin:

lance... is that you?

LanceZierlein

My dad out in pittsburgh but I'm proud of the job he did. He had limited talent to work with imho, but they worked hard for him.

mike perhaps? http://twitter.com/Mike_Zierlein

these things happen in this game but to give him nothing higher than a third rounder and expect perfection with ben is crazy

Thats the pic I was talking about. Something about that picture always made me wonder how good of a coach he was.

All I can say about this firing is scapegoat. The real problem has yet to be addressed. Maybe next year?:noidea:

This firing makes a lot of sense. There continues to be growth along the line, and I do think the guys are talented (for the most part)....but the REAL reason for most of the lack of execution starts up front. When examining break-downs after games (Post Game Heroes) there seems to be an inordinate amount of fundamental malfunctions along the line. Why was the offensive line in disarray during the Browns game? That was late in the season. The line had played together. There's NO reason for miscommunication or confusion at that point. That is NOT Arians fault, that is traced directly to the OL coach.

If they were going to scapegoat him, last year would have been the time to do so...OL coach isn't high enough profile to take THAT much heat off an FO, and the Steelers don't work that way, anyway, since Arians is the clear candidate to assuage the vicious appetite of fickle fans.
